Been getting replys of 18 qts to 26 qts, that is a big difference when needing to come up with a 50/50 mix. Anybody changed a 97 12 valve lately.

It depends on how well you are able to drain it. Best thing is to mix the antifreeze with distiled water before adding it to the engine to gett your 50/50 mix.

Thanks for the reply. I guess I had better wait , the Cummins man explained how critical it was to have the solution right and gave me only 2 gal of chemical??Do you use the Cummins test strips ?

Here's what I do: Flush till you get clear water. Drain as much as you can and seal it up. Add 12 quarts of your fav anti-freeze. Add distilled water to fill to top. Add 50/50 mix to overflow tank.

Per advice from an article in the TDR mag, I took the easy way.

Drain just the rad coolant (3gals) & replace w/ the recommended premixed coolant (i. e. Pep Boys has the Cummins approved Shell Rotella coolant) & double your coolant maintenance schedule.

Don't forget you'll have to top off overflow 3-4 times as jiggle valve purges out the air in the system.

:)

I was also going to do a coolant change on my truck and went to my local Cummins dealer for the coolant. They sold me the pre-mixed Fleetguard ES Compleat extended life antifreeze. I hope to do the change soon but was wondering if anyone has used this product. It says it is good for 150,000 miles.

Drained and replaced with 20 qts of the es fleetguard 50/50 mix. Could not get the last gallon out/
