Since I had the water pump recall done I can almost always smell coolant when I get out of the truck after driving it. I was talking to another guy who just had his water pump done recently and the same thing. There is no signs of leaks on either trucks anywhere, I even had the dealer check it out as well. It seems odd that they change the pumps to ones with weep holes and we get odors. Could be coincidence, but....
Anyone else notice this?

How long has it been? I noticed the smell with mine at first but only the first few times I drove it. I assumed they just had some spill under the hood somewhere and a couple drives burnt it off.

What year is your truck? Do you have the wye pipe? I'd check that over real well if you have it.

Sometimes as the weather gets hotter, if and the radiator runs a bit hotter, the overflow will spit out a bit more???? They probably overfilled it a bit when doing the recall.

Smelled it with mine as well for about a week after the change. Checked everywhere, nothing (2015).
Coolant level is still good four months later. Was in there doing oil and fuel filters last week, gave it a once over, all good.

I had same thing almost took it back to dealer. However once I opened the hood and really started looking around not sure they even used a drain pan for the coolant it was everywhere. It was almost like they just popped a hose and let drain. However a week or so later it stopped smelling.

I smelled coolant on my 2014 Ram 2500 ctd 4x4 from day 1. Same with my 2015 3500 drw. Had the water pump changed at 73 k for the recall, and I'm close to 3,000 miles since that, and I still smell coolant. Reckon I always will. I don't lose any sleep over it. No coolant on the garage floor, or undercarriage.

Same here have always smelled coolant, nothing seemed to change on the recall, stronger for awhile but now about the same . Have never needed to add a drop

Same problem on my 16.Took it back to dealer hosed down engine bay still smelled it so they did a pressure check no leaks. Service manager I've known for years and trust said that these trucks run cool and that it can take awhile for the system to burp out any trapped air and thats when you get that smell
. Mine took 4-6weeks to go away all is good now

It's fixed now. I took it in again and the shop manager did the check this time and found it. It was a part of the EGR plumbing that was leaking. Probably from the time they disassembled things for the exhaust manifold exchange.

I have also noticed coolant smell since my water pump was replaced on my 2014. I was checking around for a leak and noticed a very slight drip off the upper "y" pipe on the engine side. I have been watching coolant level and it has only dropped about a half inch in 3k miles. I stopped by my local NAPA store and got a constant torque hose clamp and installed it along with the factory spring clamp. Hopefully this will solve the leak issue. I have heard talk about a billet or cast aluminum "Y" pipe but I can't seem to locate one. Any suggestions?
