I am reading up on coolant, because it is time to change it in my wifes car, and I found a reference to the following article.

So, whaddya think about intervals? And types?



I am not ready to change it in the truck yet, but I was advised by a well respected mechanic not to run Extended Life Coolant for over 2 years.

I agree with your mechanic. I have changed out my anti-freeze every 30K miles even with the extended life coolant. I have seen engines that went longer and there has been a build-up gunk in the cooling passages.

If you want to keep your truck running longer I would wait no more then 30K miles before changing out the anti-freeze.

To me this is just like any other maintainance item. I know that the manufactures our coming out with all types of extend long life items for people who just want to turn the key and drive. They also buy a new car/truck every couple years so they either do not know or do not care. When was the last time auto mechanics was taught in high school?
