The pic is of the torque converter cooler located just above the starter. The pic is shot from under the truck on the drivers side. There are four lines that run in/out of the cooler. There are two upper lines, one coolant and one transmission. There are two lower lines, one coolant and one transmission. Here's where the problem exists. The upper transmission line(right) rubs on the lower coolant line(left). When you look at the lines thru the wheel well, it does not look like the lines have rubbed at all. Looks aren't everything! Feel between where the two lines cross. At some point, these two lines rub and/or vibrate against each other and cause them to wear down and fail.

I believe this to be a common problem. While traveling around town, I checked out a few other trucks and found the same problem on all of them. At the dealer, the 12'' rubber coolant line is $100. The transmission line is $150. The job is very do-able at home, but sux major a**.

So, I recommend checking your lines out before it's too late.

Interesting find.

Do you think you could use standard rubber heater core hose and route it to alleviate the issue?

Probably. I ziptied a 3" piece of water pipe insulating foam to the new transmission line. This should keep the two lines from contacting each other.
