Just checked and I have a P0480. No other symptoms and have not noticed anything odd recently.

Do I need to be worried or see the dealer before another cross country trip??

Thanks for any recommendations.

I have had that code far about 8 months and 30,000 km's. No ill effects yet. Funny you ask this because I was checking my codes today and it is the first time that I have noticed that the code somehow cleared itself. I was going to get the dealership to look into that for me and now the code is gone!!!!!! Bottom line for me is that it was not a problem at all and it fixed itself. :-laf

Maybe if I take the truck to Canada instead of the desert Southwest the code will clear too !!! :)

I'll keep an eye on it. I understand that codes do clear after a period of time if it does not happen again.

Thanks for the information Swamp.

I had that code when using my cool down timer when it is really hot out. The timer did not provide power to the fan clutch when the computer was telling it to activate. I installed a jumper and it has never returned. Not sure if you guys are running any timers but thought I would throw that out there for general info.

I have recently installed Howard's cool down timer and followed his recommendations for the jumper. Maybe that is the cause, but actually this code could have been around for a while since I have not checked for codes in 6 months.

bpenrod - does this sound like what happened to you?? I did the jumper at the same time I installed the cool down timer, so... .

I installed the cooler first then noticed a code when the weather got hot. I called Howard and he told me about the jumper. Once I did that and cleared the code it never came back.

I'm not sure if the "fix" is universal. On Howard Vanfleet's turbo timer (which works great by the way, and is affordable) the jumper instructions are included with the kit. You may want to contact him to see if it will work on other systems. He advertises on this forum I believe.

His box is simple, works perfectly and easy to install. It saves me a bunch of time, now that I don't have to wait for EGTs to get below 300°F. I used to just wait until it got "close" and then shut down the truck. A timer will protect the turbo bearing oil and should extend the life of the turbo.
