Cooper Discover tires

Anybody run these? What is your personal experience. I'm looking at the Discover M&S in the 235/85/16 size.

I can't tell you about the M&S, but I run the ST and they are MEATY. They hum alot, but I like them

Stay away from the discoverer A/T unless it is really cheap. be prepared for a short life span. The H/T is a great wearing tire but no traction. The LT is probably their best(square block tread) They also make an AWT that is a shallow depth tread. They are usually about 10-15% less than the others but you get what you pay for!! Good luck! I've had the Discoverer AT's on mine for the past 15,000 miles. Way better than the factory Goodyears. Excellent wet weather traction, and the truck will actually move in 2wd when there's snow on the ground. Noise is minimal (can't hear it over the Cummins anyway). Wear seems to be better than the Goodyears, too. At 15K I still have about 2/3 tread left (got 30k out of the stock GY's).



I initially had some (I would almost call it severe) feathering on the outer and inner tread blocks on the front, but I bumped the psi's to 70 on the front (from 60) last time I rotated, and the feathering hasn't returned. 70psi up front and 30psi in back result in a nice, even wear pattern across the entire tread. This is for an empty truck; when I plan on hauling or pulling, I bump the psi's in the rear up to the recommended 50.

Personally I will never own a set of Cooper tires. Poor mileage, won't balance, defective tires. All those headaches are not worth a few dollars saved IMO. Some love 'em, I hate 'em.

I had a friend who tried to run the Discoverer M&S on his 2000 auto truck. While the were great for bite in the snow and mud they are way to soft a tread to be run constantly. Now what I mean by that is this. They were designed for extreme weather conditions and tested in Canada where they run alot of snow capped roads. This does not allow excessive heat buildup and they stayed together. when he installed them on his truck and drove them daily(used on alot of dry roads here)they began to tear chunks out of the tread blocks. Cooper factory rep asked him why he bought those and explained to him and me they are not designed for our heavy front ends and constant driving on dry roads. They are a very soft compound for bite and will not last.



He explained to us the Discoverer ST's are the best choice(I have had them on my truck for 25,000 miles now) and second choice is the Discoverer AT's. I myself am well satisfied with my St's. They provide a great ride and have proven to be the best tire I have had in a while. They bite hard in snow(can not tell you about off-road mud,my truck doesn't get dirty)and provide great bite on rainy roads. Your truck your choice,hope this helps... ... . Andy

What stacerbob says. I have a set of A/T's and the siping was gone in 17k miles and were and are an ice skate on ice, snow and mud. Will never have another cooper again. Am going back to Bridgestone tires. They are more expensive but worth it.

I'll have to echo some of the above. Several years ago I had a set of the A/T's on a pickup. They wore out way too quick. Not very good on the slippery stuff either. Had good luck with a set of Kelly Springfield's I had on my 98 Ram gasser. Really nice tread, very deep, and are doing great on the truck to this day. (Sold it in town!)

I just bought the 315ST's they are excellent so far. They worked great at the pulls. I also have thr A/t's mounted on my other rims,they too have been excellent,they wore great,and the hook /handle excellent on the street.

I have them (M+S) in that size. Great winter tire, but not meant for an all around tire. Snow and ice traction is awesome. With a soft compound and siping all over, they will wear fast on dry pavement. They would also build up heat which would destroy them in summer conditions. Mine are mounted on a 2nd set of rims so I can swap them when I want. Winter weather keeps us guessing sometimes up here. We've had snowstorms in Oct. and May with a lot of good weather in between.

Pit Bull, I ran the 265's on my 2001 Ram and had good service. I run 15s" on my Grand Cherokee, (drive it 126 miles a day) currently have 47000 miles on them and there is still ALOT of wear yet.

What stacerbob said. I have the 315's and they have a 50k milage warr. I have less than

30k and they are almost gone. I pull nothing. As far a balanceing, the local cooper dealer couldn't balance them (lifetime balanceing) so I took the truck to Discount Tire and

they balanced them great the first time. I have used cooper for the last 20 years and really like them, but the milage on the A/T's is no good,

I have a set of Cooper 285 a/t`s. The day that I bought the tires a guy told me he would never own another set. He drove a 4x4 ram gasser. Said they don`t wear. I went back to the tire dealer and repeated what I was told. Dealer said, the guy lives in the high mountain are drives down daily. Oh, ok. I have alittle over 5000 mi

on the tires. So far so good.

Thanks guys, I'm trying to find the perfect all around tire and respect your experences. Price is a factor but not everything, I need winter traction based on the road I live on. I had heard that Cooper made a good tire, but it looks like the experiences of the group are all over the map. The other tire I was considering was the Michelin XPS Tractions, only probelm is that they cost around $60-70 more per tire ($180 each). With 6 of them that gets expensive I still have time to look around for the right tires but it is not easy to find a good tire for a great price.

Just put a set of 235/85R16 Cooper LT's on my sons truck. So far so good but it's only been 1000 miles

If you can afford the XPS then you have already answered your question. You might save a little and get BFG All Terrain but they will be 8 plyat the most. Like above the Bridgestone Dueler AT is a good tire. And don't flame me guys but so it the Firestone Steeltex AT.
