Is their site correct that those are only 2,600 lb max load tires? :--)

2600 x 4 = 10,400

GVWR 9,000

______

1,400

I only tow 5% of the time (if that, then it's an 18 ft car hauler)... the rest of the time, it's usually only myself or myself & my daughter.

What backspace would be good to run on a non lifted truck? What backspace are stock wheels?

Thanks

Stock is 6". I have aftermarket wheels that are just over 5" in back space and also another 1/2" wide so they added 1 and 3/8" inch to the outside and enough to warrant flares. I run a 12. 50 wide tire and definitely wouldn't want them to stick out any more than they do.

Matt, If you don't mind what kind of wheels and tires do you have on that 03 in those pics?? Sizes and brands? Thanks

OEM Offset w/8" Wheel Confusion

Ricksons says OEM is 1. 7" offset. That would make a back space of 5. 7". Could they be wrong or are they adjusting the offset for the 8" wheels to a 6. 75 or 7. 50 inch wheel and then stating that the offset is 1. 7" when it's really 2. 0" ???

Update:

Assuming the offset is 2" on the 8" wheel making a backspace of 6" then the offset is 25% of the wheel width.

25% times 6. 75" and you come up with 1. 6875" That would get the wheel in the same place on the centerline as OEM.

Maybe that's where Rickson gets the 1. 7" -- it's 1. 7" on a 6. 75" wheel to be in the same position relative to the centerline.

I've got the Discoverer S/T 35X12. 50X17 and love them. See gallery for pics, I have before leveling kit, and after leveling kit pics. I get very little rub at full lock right turns, that was slightly worse before I put the leveling kit in. Not an issue at all now though, I just don't turn that last 1/8th turn of the wheel.

I checked out your pics. Looks really nice! The one thing about tires that's nice is that if you get bored with something you can pretty easily change it to something else or revert to stock.

Using this Tire Calculation page (awesome tool, btw) I converted the 35x12. 50x17's over to the P Metric size. It works out you're running the equivalent to a 318/72R17 tire. So yours are actually a little bigger than what I'm going to run so I shouldn't have anything worse than what you experienced and maybe not as bad... .

Good information. Appreciate the feedback.

Looks like a Tonka Truck.

First observation is the soft mushy ride. These are only Load Range D's. Max inflation pressure is 50. I've got 45 on the front and 35 in the rear.

Much softer than the E Load Range 260 Michelins.

Truck is not lifted at all. Slight rubbing on full left lock and barely rubbing on full right lock... ...

Now that they're on -- what's the best way to go about getting the speedo re-calibrated?

Rhino -- Not sure yet as I have to update the settings for the new tires. Using the GPS at 70 I'm around 2030 RPM's instead of 2210. I'll know more when I get the computer updated... .

OK, it's been 2 years. Still like them? I'm looking at new tires and this thread came up in a search.

Thanks

PETE; I have had the 315/75/16 in BFG AT's, Cooper ATR and Cooper STT.

The ATR was the best tire I have ever owned. I was traveling to lansing every weekend at the time and these tires were great in the snow. I REALLY liked the center rib which is designed for LONG tire wear. I think they have some sort of milage warranty. Again, I would not blink twice about spending about $750. 00 for these tires. It got a great price at Grand Traverse Tire and Wheel.

These tire also ran very true for me. I had no vibrations but I have balancing beads inside the tire. Good Luck

Dave

I had these on my 03 in stock size and they were great. Got 50K out of them and they would have went farther if it would have timed out to the summer months. Not quite enough tread left for the winter we had last year. I really liked them. Quiet, balanced great, even wear and a good price.

I had them and the exact same size on my 05 and loved them. As far as price, thats a good price because i have a cooper warehouse in town that sold them to me out the door for $150 (after a pre plan fire inspection). They will be my next tire purchase again.

I love my ATRs

I went with the stock size 265/70R17E. One thing I immediately noticed was the increase in ride height. I got out the old seamstress tape(very handy for measuring round things) and discovered these tires were bigger than the numbers indicate. With almost 3200 lbs of granite in the bed and my roll-a-way toolbox the loaded height @80psi came out to 32. 2 inches. Ride quality is excellent both loaded and unloaded. Also excellent is the ability to disperse water-something the stock Michelins sucked at. I made a couple of long(500) mile trips with the new tires and inadvertently hit 3-4 inches of water on the road @60mph. I feel if I would have had the original tires I would have wound up in the ditch. I am not condoning slamming into standing water at speed. I was also able to try these tires on sand on the National Seashore just south of Corpus Christi, Texas. I ran 65psi all around and had no trouble even in soft sand. I will buy another set of these tires when they wear out.

Glad to hear all of the great reviews. BUT, how do they compare against the 315 BFG AT/KO in the dirt and light mud? I hunt quite a bit and would find myself in those conditions quite frequently.
