Cooper HT for Dually WMD!

I installed the Cooper HTs 235 -17s on my Dually. Smooth, quiet. I started for Oregon and when I looked into my mirror

I have never seen a tire throw rocks like these. It looked like a shotgun blast out the back. That is even with mud flaps and an ultra-guard.

Is that due to an agressive tread?? And are they a taller tire than the stock size??

Actually, really a mild highway tread. Stock size. The tread design just grabs and holds rocks until the last minute.

Are these things a "E' load range tire or not? Anything in a rib type tire in this size yet?

I am looking at putting tire on pretty soon. If you don't mind me asking, how much were the Cooper H/T's?

They are E rated. Alaska prices are high, they were about a grand installed and balanced. I am not sure what you can get them for down there.



I have not found a rib tire yet. These were the closest I had found for the 3rd gen duallys.

See the last line of my post right above yours... yes they are E-load. No one is making a rib yet, just all-season or all-terrain.



Only tires in the LT235/80R17E size are:

- Goodyear Wrangler SR/A (original OEM all season)

- Goodyear Wrangler GS/A (original OEM all-terrain)

- General AmeriTrac (current OEM all-season)

- General AmeriTrac TR (current OEM all-terrain)

- Cooper Discoverer H/T (all-season)

- Cooper Discoverer S/T (all-terrain)



I had inquired to Michelin some months ago if they would be offering the LTX M/S in the Dodge sizes, and got a reply "no plans at this time". Shame, because I run LTX M/S Commercial on my 96, and those tires have been awesome, even in snow. I have run Cooper on my 96 and had decent mileage with them, but the Michelins have 40,000 on them, and the rear tires can go another 40 with no sweat.



Guess I'll see how well the Generals do on my upcoming 2005, then I'll go from there...

I currently have the Cooper S/Ts. The truck had the H/Ts on it when I bought it.



Never had trouble with rocks and the H/Ts, but they were almost to the wear indicator when I bought the truck.



Very happy with both. At the current rate of wear on the S/Ts, I should get 60k+ out of them.

how are the STs for ride and noise?

We got two company trucks this year one with BFGs and the other with General Ameritracs. The Generals collect and throw gravel like nothing I've driven before.



However the Genrals are about half the cost of the Cooper S/Ts (quoted $225) in JHole. I still want the Coops. Looking for a bargan.

Pretty smooth. They do have a bit of a hum, but I can't hear it, unless in town w/windows down. Not that loud though. Don't know what it would like with a quiet muffler, though. Don't have a muff.

What size? I got mine in stock size (215-85-16) Something like $120/ea. from Farm & Fleet. Mnt/bal. extra. I mounted them myself and hauled them in to be balanced in their shop.

Yes the $225 is discounted list price for the 235/80/17, stock size 03+ dually. It is a crime. Since 19. 5" are about the same price.



Now if I could just find a dead guy with a pair of nice boots on and 19. 5" rims on his truck I would be set.

Man, what a rip off. Dodge should've just gone to 19. 5s, so there were plenty of tires from an exsisting size. Not to have to make a new size.
