two questions;



1) what is the other american owned tire company?







i was told that cooper made pro-comp tires



the ones on my '01 are the best tires i've ever had ...



35's the farthest out was 4 oz ...



i have the all terrains, at 11k it looks like they're gonna last the 50k that they're warrantied for ...



2nd question is can anyone confirm that cooper makes the pro-comps?

The first answer is Goodyear.



And yes last I heard, Cooper was still building the Pro-Comp's under a contract. This is really common in the tire industry. Most so called "private brand" tires, ie: brands you've never heard of are built under a supply contract by big name tire companies. Examples would be Kirkland brand is built by Uniroyal. Big O branded tires were at one time built by goodyear, not sure if that's still true. Trailmark is private label Goodyear. LeMans is private label Bridgestone, the list goes on.

The tires you get at Pep Boys are Cooper and they rock for the money. I had a set of aggressive treads on my jeep and they will last well over 50k.

Interco tires are made in the US. I doubt there are only 2.

Pep Boys uses several different manufacturers; the last set I bought from them(this was 2 or 3 years ago) were made by Kelly-Springfield.

Mastercrafts are also a Cooper production. Both very good tires, imho, at least for the winter tread varieties.

I believe that Dunlop merged with Goodyear some time back. They are a German company.

I have been running 35" Pro comps on my truck since new. I have 50,000 + miles on the truck and I am on my 3rd set of tires. I thought most of the wear I was experiencing was from aggressive burnouts and just general goofing around. Then I put on a new set, towed a trailer on a 5000 mile trip and used up 50 % of the rear tread. I like the tire but it really isn't designed for a Heavy Duty use. If I didn't tow or abuse the tires I think they would last an acceptable milage for me. Plus I think for the size they are the best balancing tire I have purchased.

I have Pro Comps AT 305/16 on my SD. I have to admit they are wearing great but my main complaint with them is "out of round" I bought them and after driving the truck shook. I took them to another tire shop and they showed me how out of round they were. I have them rebalanced once a year. I should have bought the centermatics but the balancing is free.

The "Rubber City" is no longer what it used to be and that is because of the goverment selling them out to the enviro-mentals and 10 billion chinamen.

Goodyear builds tires all over the world, buying a Goodyear tire does not guarantee that it was built in the US. Same goes for every major tire maker.



Dunlop's origins were in Ireland, then started mass production in Germany and was then bought by Sumitomo tire making Dunlop a Japenese company prior to Goodyear buying majority stock in Sumitomo, effectively making them a US owned company, for now. Goodyear is financially the weakest of the large tire companies and is not in good shape right now.

Cooper tires

My original Michelin's were worn out at 42k, I replaced them with Cooper Discoverer AT's, and they now have 57k and still have about 5k left on them. They are good tires on wet or dry pavement. and at $50 bucks a tire less money. plus they are American made not that French crap.
