I'm in the market for tires (as my previous post states). I came across some Coopers that raised my brow. Cooper AT 265x75x16 They are load range "E" at 3415lbs. Which seems quite impressive. Does any one have any experiance with these tires? Thanks to all who responded to previuos posts. :)

FWIW - I have never been a big fan of Coopers. Through a friend I can get a great price on these tires (about $100 less per set than other name brand tires), and I still refuse to put them on. Some guys have great luck with them, but not me.

JMHO,

Ryan

I think mine are absolutely great!

Perhaps not the longest wearing, but proved to be good traction, durable, and drive well.

Tardog,

I just went past my first rotation (6,000 miles) with the Coopers. I am happy with them so far. They seem to be pretty good in snow and ice. I have to be careful in damp pavement as I accidently spun my tires in 4th gear getting on the highway last week. I don't see any wear yet. I am happy especially with the price compared to Goodyear, etc.

I just got rid of my Cooper HT tires. After 40K miles, I had a tread seperation about a month ago, and another one this last weekend. I had at least another 20K miles of tread left. I rotated every 6K miles. I replaced them with Bridgestone AT's

Tardog, I put the exact same tires on mine about a month ago and absolutely like them, but I have always liked Cooper's. I have the HT's on my Jeep, and after 43000 miles they still look good.

Discover S/T

You can get this one in a 265, load range E also. Great tire if you don't mind a little noise (who can hear it over the Cummins anyway?). They are fairly aggressive and seem to give good tread wear/life. I abused the heck out of a set and was very impressed with how well the stood up.

The Discoverer A/T is a good highway tire, haven't run them long enough to know how they'll hold up.

I'm on my fourth set of Coopers without a blowout, driving LOTS of gravel.

I too just put on Cooper Discoverer A/T's 2 months ago. They are great tires. I got the 245/75/16's. What I like about the Discoverer series is that they put more siping in their tires from the factory than any another tire that I've checked on. The M/T have even more siping than the A/T's. They are not too noisey on the road and they have great grip in the mud. Are good on the ice also, actually probably one of the best tires I've ever used for ice and snow. IMHO.

Hey WDaniels

Has the snow left yet? :D

I've narrowed down the new skins to the Cooper AT's or the BFG Allterrian's. Tough decision?

Coopers ROCK

Tardog,,I have a set of the Cooper Discoverer ST's on my truck also in size 265/75R16 LR E and love them(3415 rated also),,If a good all around tire is what you seek and your up north of the border why not look at the Discoverer M+S in the same size,,They are rated the same and are specfically designed for adverse weather conditions and still give a smooth even ride,,A description right off the latest Cooper catalog I have says this about them... "Snow groove design technology for excellent snow and ice traction--D squared D sipe technology further enhances winter performance--Strategically placed stud pins holes deliever optimum traction on ice",,Diesel Dale has a set on his 2000 Quad 4x4 and they are a nice driving tire and reasonably priced round here,,Cooper rep told him they are designed along the same line as the Blizzak's sold up your way,,They actually will grab ahold of the snow/mud and use it to enhance traction capabilities,,With only one storm around here measurable they plowed and performed flawlessly and their rain handling is superb,,Look them over, kinda a cross between what your looking at and something agressive,,Any other questions drop me a note... ... Andy

Had a look on the net, your right they look like the Blizzak. My only concern is that they may have to many sipes to keep the tire from chunking out when off roading. When I speak of off roading I mean for work Fully loaded truck +- 4000lbs of gear running gravel coastal roads = bed rock and blasted rock. Not doing this all the time onle about 25%. Tha rest I'm on the Highway using the CTD as atime machine :D Getting crews organized. How are the coopers to deal with if any problems occur? Thanks

Tardog,

Sorry for the delay in answering your question. I have been out of town all week.

Yes, the tires are Cooper Discoverer A/T size LT265-75/R16.

I do a little bit of gravel, (Never over 20 mph! <G>) but mostly highway. Not a lot of towing at this time either.

I still think the S/T may be a better tire for how you are using them. We use them on lots of our work vehicles and they hold up very well to the abuse we throw at them. I believe they are a little harder rubber than the A/T's, and thus would wear longer on gravel.

I put on a set of S/T's last summer. They now have 18k miles on them, probably 50-60% of this gravel (not slow gravel either  In fact, some was very high speed gravel  ). I didn't do a good job of rotating tires, and I still think these will last for 25-30k miles. High speed gravel is very hard on tires.

Don't know about dealing with Cooper on replacements, because I have never ruined one.

There are many good brands of tires out there. I haven't found a good reason to use anything other than Coopers.

Usually the load rating designates the number of plies. C=6, D=8, and E=10

Most sidewalls are only two ply. The exceptions to this (that I know of) are BFG A/T's and Goodyear MTR's. Both have 3 ply side walls.
