ATV = Crack Habit??

Im sure Im the only one that didnt know this. When I was up at the store this afternoon, there was a cop car just sitting there, engine running and no cop. Still sitting there and running when I came out. I was afraid there might be a problem, so I looked up close in the windows, and still no cop. As I was getting read to leave, another cop car came into the parking lot. They always go here for coffee. I asked the cop if it was policy to leave their cars running unattended. He told me that they leave some cars running 24/7, never turn them off because if they did the computer would shut down. I told him I would be afraid that someone would hop in and go for a ride. He said there is some kind of control so that if you just step on the gas, it shuts it down and no one can take it. I just took his word for it.

Anyone ever hear of this ? Arizona Ranger probably knows about this.

Most of the cool down timers for our trucks work the same way. When you shut the truck down and get out, if you push the accelerator it kills the engine.

The bigger question is, have you heard of the cops leaving their engines running while they're in getting coffee and a donut (or other things)

There is a system where you flip a switch, remove the keys and keep the car running. If someone tries to drive off, it will kill the engine immediately. With all the electronics and lights its not too hard to kill the battery.

Yes! this has been done this way in my area of IL all of the time, especially in the summer with the A/C running keeping the car cool. They can also get in and accelerate quickly if required on an emergency call.
