Black Talons are NOT ILLEGAL! They are a standard hollowpoint bullet and are not armor piercing. The reason some people think that they are illegal is because Winchester restricts sales to law enforcement only. They also pulled the old version before they were banned and made a couple of minor changes.

Looking furthing, in this thread I noticed that they are illegal in Minnesota and Wisconsin.

edit: more info on Black Talons.

How it differs from a conventional JHP.

SDalton, When pulled over I ALWAYS keep my hands on the wheel until told to do otherwise! I treat the cop (no offense intended, thats what I call them) with respect as he needs to know what he is dealing with. You act like a low life piece of crap and I will gaurantee you will be considered and treated as such!

Now, if the officer treats me like crap after my being courteous I will insist that he does otherwise, in a kind manner. I hear all this garbage of how "I told that %o&#er ^#*k#r this and that," I ask who raised you! You act like trailer trash you will get treated as such. When you go for a job interview do you run a filthy mouth? NO! Why? cause you need to be considered and thought highly of. They are all bad A$$ till court day then they get the haircut and suit. You pay them (cops) to do a job, let them! If they prove themselves unworthy of the job write the letters and take the action to get them and their (our) badge separated!

Bunch of "little red roosters" posting here, IMO. I work with a biker who wears his "colors" every day and has 20,000 miles on a 9 month old bike... he may not care for cops, short pipes, long hair, but he knows the difference between right and wrong! He was pulled over for entering the carpool lane through the double line... . did wrong, took the ticket, NEVER whined like a spoiled baby!

As far as I know, Black Talons are not illegal to own by citizens, they just cant buy them. The old design looked to be teflon coated but was a hollow point, which did not piece armor. The reason it was pulled from the shelzes was because the media made such a stink about the sharp edges it had when opened inside the body cavity. The doctors complained about getting nicked by these points when feeling around inside body cavities. Winchester did the right thing and pulled them, right before congress was about to introduce a bill to make them illegal. They then came out with a new and improved one that opened better, and still had the jacketed points, but without the black coating and cool name. This can be purchased by citizens. I have shot a pit bull with an original Black Talon, and it didnt open up. Winchester SXT I believe are the new and improved Talons.

956, I agree that you should be treated with respect during a traffic stop. If you act poorly, you will likely not be let go with a warning. If people act like jerks, then expect to get every ticket that can possibly be written, and be told "have a nice day" by the officer, as he walks off.

Some of you people amaze me... . And I don't mean that as a compliment.

I guess my IQ must be deteriorating at a drastic rate and my family tree is being reduced to a single branch since I'm considering a career change - into Law Enforcement. I must have been intelligent at one point in my life because I was able to earn a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. Yeah, I wanna go hang out with all the idiots that barely graduated high school.

Let's see - in the ~17 years driving I've been issued 7 moving violations (all 5-10mph over the posted limit) and 2 citations for improper registration. About half were issued by CHP & the rest by various sheriffs or police dept. All officers were professional & polite. I find it very difficult to believe that several of you are being singled out without 'any' cause.

Get a grip. The ******* & moaning on this thread is almost as bad a the *****-fest about Sam Memmolo.

Brian, It seem you will fit in just fine if you choose a career change.

When I'm pulled over, I act mature and courteous, and about half the time thats fine and dandy, and dont have any issues with them. The other half is a different story, they walk up to my door all big-n-bad acting, open-up with some cheesy one liner, and treat me like I'm 2 years old. Thats when my courtesy stops, and when my eye-rollin' begins. If treated like crap, I don't care if your a cop, my Mother, or the President of the country, you WILL be treated like crap also. Go ahead and give me your "every ticket that can be written", I have been to court many many times, and have no fear of court rooms.

When you pull me over, and can't respect me as a person, just give me the ticket, I dont need your speeches, it goes in one ear, and right out the other anyway, save your breath.

Edit, I also think I would be a great cop, I have the additude for it, but after the stereotyping I got from being a OTR driver, I won't subject myself to being stereotyped again.

Rob - Your attitude/actions on this thread have been more than enough to cause you to be stereotyped as a 'big bad truck drivin' red neck traffic cop hater'

I can't imagine why a cop would 'harass' you duing a traffic stop... ... .

Brian

Brian,

I don't drive semi's anymore, I had enough of the BS for one lifetime, I'm just talkin' about my daily life drivin' my pick-up. I don't HATE cops, I however don't agree on how they present themselves. As I stated above, I act courtous and freindly when pulled over, till I get harrased, then all bets are off.

I am a very nice guy, just won't tolerate havin' my buttons pushed, by anyone. I will still back Professional drivers, because I have been there and done that and know what goes on in that Profession.

Also, I was not as you said, 'big bad truck drivin' red neck traffic cop hater', I was a very professional driver, just tryin' to make a living.

This thread has degenerated to personal arguments. We are way off topic now. I am closing the thread
