Copying LP records to CD????

I have a stack of LP records accumulated over many years I just can't part with and would like to copy them onto CD's. I'm told it can't be done so do any of you have a solution?

It can be done and I have a friend who has done about 30 so far. I know he bought a stand alone unit to do it that was about $200. 00. But now is using his puter to do some too. I have done a little of it by running a cable from the outputs on the record player to the input on the sound card, thats the easy part. Then you need the software. Windows 98 has "Sound Recorder " that will work but is kinda a PITA. Look in Programs/ Entertainment.

I hope somebody else has some good input on this as its gotta be easier than I have been doing.

I think the easiest way is to buy a stand alone CD player/recorder. Then do it just as your would record a LP to cassette though you stereo system. Frees up your computer plus you can connect your computer audio output to your audio receiver/amp to record downloaded music if you like. Most computers audio input is mono not the best for making CDs.

I just got done doing a ton of this for my dad. He had a bunch of old cassette tapes that he wanted on CD, not records, but the same principle.



I recorded them onto the computer hard drive through the soundcard (Mine is stereo, but some no-name thing), I then cleaned the hiss and background noise out of them with Nero Wave Editor, one of the apps that came with my CD-RW drive. After all of this I burned them to CD. It turned out well, in some instances the CD's sound better than the tapes because there is no background noise and hiss.

I thought I read somewhere that the phono cartridge output level made it a little difficult. Seems to me the recievers have different circuits for the inputs from tape decks and phono players. I know it can be done, but not as easy as recording from a tape.

Most of the stand alone units have an analog or digital inputs which allow for recording cds or cassette/records onto cds. Good luck.
