Okay I am putting a gauge pod on my 03 6sp. I have the propods a piller mount, pyro, boost, and the trans. The guy installing says check about the trans guage for the straight shift? He says that one is usually for an automatic. Where to locate the probe? Any comments on this one is helpful.

Also any sugg. on 2 additional gauges for the pod i have to go over the rearview?

the trans temp gauge isn't necessary for the hand shakers, it doesn't do any harm. you can remove the pto cover and weld a bung into it for the sender to go in, or buy some fast coolers and they have a fitting in them for the sender and you'll hold some extra trans oil too... .

in pod above mirror, how about fuel pressure and lube oil temp... ? might need to both be electric senders to make it to that location...

Definately ditch the trans temp. in favor of a fuel pressure gauge. Even on my automatic, unless I'm towing a decent amount of weight, my trans temp. barely moves. Completely unnecessary on a manual transmission.

As for additional gauges, a post-turbo EGT is useful (as long as you already have a pre-turbo EGT first).

'Course, if you already bought a trans temp gauge, you can just use that to monitor your engine oil.

Thanks guys,

has anyone got some picture of installs and where they tapped in on the various probe points. I have seen a feww on here from other installs but can't seem to find them now

why would you want to put a guage pod in an 03 when their are products like edge attitude with monitor..... I wonder how long I will have to wait for my 05 attitude??

What is this "Edge Attitude" you speak of? It doesn't seem to be available for the Dodge :)

Seriously, the lack of Edge's ability to bring a product to market aside, some people just prefer analog gauges. They're easier to read than a digital gauge, requiring only a quick glance to make sure the needles are in the safe zones. Many professional racers will have their gauges rotated in such a way that during normal operation, the needles point at 12o'clock. Any deviation from that is easily noticed, without having to take your eyes and brain off of the road/track in front of you and process a bunch of numbers (that are always changing, anyway).

I have never used analog guages. They just don't fit in my 3rd gen. Attutude monitor first, second Spa guages and third drive to the engine. Its simple...

I will wait till death for the attitude monitor.

ps how many different kinds of guages have you ever read while pulling a load. When the pulling gets rough I just tap the memory and see how my egts were.

bottom line... ..... If your truck is set up correctly you don't even need guages.

You must hate your dash, then... analog tach, speedo, water temp, fuel gauge, etc. :)

I never knew so many people had incorrectly-set-up trucks.

UPDATE Well the latest now seems to be that the pyro I purchased is mainly for post. Can anyone tell me what gauge I need for Pre Egt in the Autometer Ultralite. The guy doing my work says he is not sure about welding to that cast on the manifold.

#@$%! this is getting to be a big stink

Mark,

I have the 4344 ultra-lite gauge from Auto meter and in order to get it in the center of the pipe it needs the bushing that says to be welded on??? is there a pre-exisiting hole i can use on an 03? Or is this even the right gauge for this area? Also where is the best place on my particular model to mount it?

sonyman,

You had better run from that installation location as you do not want him welding to the manifold. It's pretty obvious that he hasn't done any gauge installs or he would know to drill and tap (ususally 1/8th NPT for Auto Meters) the cast iron manifold and then just thread in the probe. The Auto Meters can be placed pre or post turbo, pre is what we would reccomend.

Mark @ DPPI

I'll second that. I did all my own installs without knowing what I was doing and I think I had less trouble than it sounds like your installer is having. Find someone else. Oo.

No - there should be an adapter with 1/8"NPT threads on one side, and larger threads on the other side (that match with the threads on the locking nut that holds the thermocouple in place). This adapter will get screwed into the manifold, and provide the proper spacing for the thermocouple.

That weld-on bushing you're talking about is only to be used when installing into thin-wall exhaust tubing, where the material is too thin to be tapped - like a 16 gauge downpipe (which, coincidentally, is where I welded mine in for my post-turbo probe).

-Tom

but the probe seems to be too long and will be touching the bottom of the manifold wall. If the bushing is not used... A picture would be most helpful, Also the instructions say it is to be mounted 1-2 inches from the turbo exaust outlet?

LATEST UPDATE... .

Finally got the gauges installed and they look great. I didn't have time to get a third gauge yet so they went ahead an just "dummyed" the trans temp until I get one. The install looks clean and neat. So now I am wondering if I should get Fuel PSI or Oil Temp for the third gauge? Any opinions on one vs. the other?
