OK guys and gals, first time post and it was a long road here. A very long road, read on.

12 years ago a close friend of mine and myself were both in need of new tow vehicles for our RVs. My friend took a leap of faith and bought a Dodge 250 with the then "new"(read untried)Cummins with a 5 speed manual. I,on the other hand followed a more conservitive course and bought a GMC duelly with the 6. 2 Detroit and 3 speed auto. I have never stopped regretting it since. (I also have never been able to keep up with him since). Over the years our RVs have gotten bigger and bigger and each time the 6. 2 would protest just a little bit more. This past fall we took delivery of a new 33ft Holiday Rambler 5th and headed out for a long weekend in the Catskill Mountains of upstate New York. On a secondary road not far from our destination we hit a 3 mile grade that had that truck down on it's knees. I swore we were going to start rolling backwards before we reached the top. We finally crested the grade with every bell and whistle on the dash going off. My wife turned to me and said "I think we need a new truck. " I quickly agreed. ( Hey, I'm no fool. When your wife thinks you need a new truck, run, don't walk to your nearest friendly Dodge dealer.

Orderd mine a couple of weeks ago. Got a garage full of goodies for it already too. Can't wait to tackle that grade this year. Heck, I may drop the wife off up at the top and go back down and do it again just for fun. #ad

Good move, and welcome to TDR. . This place will save you tons on $$, as it has me.

I tow a 10,500-11,000 Jayco, 31' 5th. My 97 3500 5speed, stock, pulls me right over hills with no problem.

Well, the only problem is other vehicles going slow, that slow me. . then its hard to get back up to speed going uphill.

I plan on upgrades on the power and torque when i get out of engine warranty. Not that i need more, but what the heck,. Its so easy with the Cummins.

Happy travels. #ad

Glad to see you join the group. Have fun with your new Dodge and all the toys.

Youll love the truck. I will also be an owner of a Holiday Rambler Presidential. Its on order and havent received a build date as yet. I hope to have it by the 2nd week of April. Hope. We are leaving for Vegas may 11th. BTW,I did a factory tour on the Monaco website. Once the chassis hits the production line its completely assembled in 6 days.

Well Doc, I have to tell you. After more then 30 years of RVing, you wind-up with quite a collection of campfire stories. The sad thing is that they are all true. Like they say, "You just can't make this stuff up".

Michael, hope you enjoy your HR as much as we do. The trailer would tow like a dream on those rare occasions when I was able to get that GM wound-up.
I was doing some trailer transporting out of Monaco in Ind. for a HR dealer freind of mine but never got a chance to go on the factory tour.

Rich, if you paste that post on the GM site I know I will be flamed, multiple times. I do have to say this though, with 120,000 miles on it, the only thing I have ever changed is filters and fluids. The engine or trans has never been apart. My only complaint, that truck could not fall out of a tree fast.

Loco,I might add that we all try to make up for wrongs. I had a 98 1500 Dodge and then decided to try the Rving thing. Ended up with a 99 Cummins after buying the TT. I now have the 01 ETH. Mistake 1 was buying too heavy a TT for the 1500. Mistake 2 was then getting the auto behind the Cummins. Some guys like towing with the auto but I didnt. I hope I have all my bases covered now. With the new 5er maxed out on weight I will still be below the max GCVW. LOL

the devil made me do it! here's the link, in case you want to see what happens to it. http://www.62-65-dieselpage.com/ubb/Forum6/HTML/000064.html

so far the only "flame" has been a minibash about our annual fee, and they can't come in to "play" without paying... . oh well.

Wow, those GM guys are a rough bunch. But then if I owned a GM I guess I would be a little upset too.
