Friends,

I tried posting in the previous thread on recent winter storms impact in the South, but it was locked down. This one may as well, but for my part, there's no political discussion intended.

So, with the above statement in mind, I want to share I saw on the San Antonio TX news that the fuel bill 4 or 5 days of severe winter event could be a BILLION dollars just to CPS. IMHO, this fuel bill will be financed by the CPS customers, unless there is ground for legal suit against the fuel provider. This likely ties into what the CPS CEO mentioned on TV earlier that the cost could be distributed on customer bills over 10 to 15 years.

Lots of TX leadership involved in the state level management have resigned (likely fired) related to the two back to back severe weather events. This comes up to the EDGE of going political, but again, my intent is to focus on the impact, results, and ongoing actions.

Please keep in mind, the impact listed above is JUST for San Antonio area. TOTAL COST of this event in TX likely WAY more $$$$$$.

Cheers, Ron

Most states have statutes on price gouging during a disaster. Still hard to believe this is still a thing down there.

I know, looks like it going to be an ongoing issue as the financial impact progresses. Seems some had autopay setup and had their bank accounts depleted that caused bad checks and folks broke. All my auto pays have pay limits AND I'm notified before they're sent.

Anyhoo, not sure if this will remain in the national news, but still news here I TX.

Wow......all I can say is this sucks.

Yeah, I only auto pay on CC, in fact I don't use a bank acct linked card for anything.. Then if I have an issue I can dispute it prior to handing any sheisters a kings ransom. Thankfully I've only had to once on a job that was not completed.. knock on wood.

This is what my provider e-mailed.

The winter storm in Texas has caused worry and confusion for many electricity customers. We’re working to address every concern you may have.
You can take comfort in knowing that our residential fixed-rate and month-to-month plans are not tied to real-time market prices, protecting you from wholesale power price swings. This means you won’t see a rate increase for February usage in your next bill because of last week’s winter storm. If you used more energy than normal to heat your home during the severe cold, you could see an increase in usage.
