Traveling to the US with a TT

Sears has the Platinum Group 65 battery on sale

Went to camper show in Green Bay and of all the campers there we only liked the Jayco 26' 5th wheel. Don't remember the exact model but is was brown color.
Anyway, I didn't think Airstream would be at the show but I have been on their site and received a brochure from them. Neither show the price. I realize they seem to be all custom order but what do these cost per foot? Just need a guestimate to see if it is within our budget.

I think the new big Airstreams are priced in the range of $100k now in part because of inflation and the devaluation of our American dollar.

You can see prices on NADA used RVs. IIRC NADA lists original MSRP on previous years.

Around here (SF Bay area) airstream trailers are outrageously priced. $49K for a 22ft Bambi 2012, a Classic 31' Airstream - $24995; 05 Classic airstream 31' - $34995; 1974 Airsteam Trailer - $8500 that one is a fixer upper; 1967 Airstream Caravel 17' - $17500; 92 Airstream Excella 1000 34' - $15000... . craigslist current ones from this morning.

jeepit,

Many that consider themselves handy with tools and want to put some sweat into their Airstream buy units for the purpose of restoring them. This can be a real fun challange or the biggest snake pit you will have ever seen. Some just need a lot of TLC and some cash, and I've seen cases where the shell is good, they pull the interior clean out, lift the shell off, repair the floor and in some cases completely REPLACE the frame and start over. A major labor / cost situation for sure, but many have Aluminumitis and the only cure is ownership. www.airforums.com is a major resource forum for knowledge. Sign up, introduce yourself and see if someone is nearby that can show your the ropes a bit. Also, serious Guru's on Airforums and many local inspectors listed to review possible rigs.

Good luck.

I'll agree, that is a really good site over there. I joined when I first began looking for a used Airstream. But, I don't post much. If you end up over there, please be careful not to enter any discussions on tow vehicles or safe towing practices. There is a group over there that is a little overzealous about their selection of tow vehicles. I'll leave it at that and let you read the rest of the details for your own entertainment. A few of our members here with lots of RV or OTR experience would have a wonderful good time reading. I've only been around commercial vehicles for 22 years and I don't have enough background to say anything in their threads.

They are pricey but I don't thinks many trailers could hold up as well as mine after 10 years of following my truck. Too many times I forget its bank there on dirt roads

There is a really nice '84 27' on the airforums classifieds right now that is absolutely what I am looking for. Unfortunately, it being in TX and me in PA, that will never happen anytime soon. It's just amazing that a trailer nearly 30 years old could be in that good of shape. I agree, you are not going to find that in many other brands.

When you look back in that era, don't overlook the Silver Streaks and Avions. They had some very nice aluminum trailers as well.

jgillott,

The Poison topics include, but are not limited to just just like you mentioned:

HITCHES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Seen the Anderson Hitch Thread? The fabled HaHa and Sean's PPP, What about Weight Distribution in general, need it/don't need it? Those bars are toooo heavy.

ST Tires!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tow vehicles, some tow a 34' with a pass car, some tow a Bambi with a 3/4T.

How much can I tow with a FILL IN UNKNOWN VEHICLE HERE__________, I haven't read the specs, but it should do it, right?

To a lesser degree, brake controllers.

But there is a tremendous knowledge base to tap into, amazing. I have learned a lot from the Airstream Guru's and I enjoy the forum.

I had looked at a mid '80's Avion last spring that was literally the nicest used trailer I had ever seen. I contacted Harvey and he was extremely helpful in giving me areas to look for. To make a long story short, the couple who were selling the trailer were also selling a late '90's F350 and had listed both together, but said in their add that they would sell separate. Even though I ended up offering several thousand over what they were asking for the trailer alone, they ended up selling the truck and trailer together to another buyer. I was extremely disappointed to say the least. I haven't found anything even close to that since.

I have stayed out of the Anderson Hitch thread just knowing what that was going to turn in to. I have been following the totally confused looking for a tow vehicle thread. I know better, but sometimes you just can't resist. Right now, it has turned in to a battle between two guys and I will not even open it anymore. I get a real kick out of that camp from up north that think all those #'s on the little stickers on their vehicles, tires, and hitches don't mean anything. Like I said earlier, I made the mistake at one point mentioning that I did drive commercial trucks off and on over the years and had been through many DOT inspections/weigh stations. #'s and facts, DOT regulations, etc. don't seem to matter in those conversations.

The site itself is great and I have learned a great amount from those guys over there. I'm fairly certain that if you own an Airstream, you can find the answer you need over there. I'm sure I'll spend even more time once I eventually find the trailer I want. I can tell you that my wife and I have looked at new ones recently. I just can't quite handle that price right now.

I know where you can get your pick of restorable Spartans!

If I had more time I would love to build an old spartan to off road specs it would really upset the puritans having 35" tires and king shocks but it would go anywhere my truck does

Yea, but it would be really something to see.

I might be able to get a pic or two of the collection. Collected by a former AS dealer and AFIK all available for your $$$ and TLC. I've been in one that was owned and restored to let's say, hunt camp grade. Unique is the begining of the description.

I'm sure that they would be way beyond my ability/time at this point, but they would be interesting to see none the less.
