Cost of swapping gears?

Has anyone swapped out gears------------3. 73 for 4. 10's-------- and what did it cost? Did the dealer have to do it to keep warranty or did you use a local shop. I am thinking of swapping my 3. 73 to 4. 10's and was wondering what to expect for cost.

It would be around $2000 I would think for parts and labor.

Your other choice would be to look for someone on here with 4. 10s who wants 3. 73s, swap the whole axle. I think it has been done a couple times by members on here. I have seen a couple post of people with 4. 10s who want 3. 73s to try to improve mileage.

Don't the front and rear ratios have to match? I'm a driveline dummy, but I thought that was the case.

i am buying 3:73's for 586 dollars. And im installing them myself. .

Where are you getting them at for that price? I called my local dealer and they gave me a price of 650 and I took that price x2

The front and rear have to be the same ratio, my guess on price is for both front and rear. Seems like XCX and you should swap axles.

If a person has a Dana 80 the price goes up because the carrier has to be changed out also, and dana does not offer a bare case any longer. It comes loaded and it is not cheap.
