I just got the renewal for my Airstream tags today. The price jumped to $113. 50 per year! It used to be $70. Jeez, it's only a 25 footer. I'll be looking for a new place to call home when I retire for sure.

Well don't move Oregon my 28 footer is $197 for two years and going up to $300 for two years next time around. It does not seem right when I pay $58 for two years for my truck which I use all the time and the trailer only moves about two months a year. But the truck is going up to $78 for two years next time around.

The 2 things PA is better for, $12/yr 3k to 10k lbs, over 10K $27 or $135 permanent and $25 5 yr license to carry firearms

Since this state is running low on play money... they went and basically doubled our "governmental surplus tax " on anything with wheels attached to it !!#@$%!

Yep just got hit with a big fee onthe horse trailer: called to find out wtf? and it has gone up because a trailer is considered "property" in the state of utah and you pay property tax on it. The tax jumped so the registration fee jumped.

Since you're in NY, here's a little trick. Don't renew your tags until you are going to use the camper. Renew on-line and the cost is prorated. So, if you won't go camping until Memorial Day, don't pay now, wait until early May to renew. There's no sense is giving the gov. and more money than you have to.

Please Please do not tell IL what your states are charging. I just renew my tags for a 30 foot 5er for $50/year. Truck plates are $79 a year for a B plate, since I pull a 5er I can get by with the B plate.

Would like to hear from someone in Oklahoma, auto license used to be based on new retail value and age of vehicle, don't remember how trailers were charged. I have two utility trailers two fifth wheels and a boat trailer. I can only pull one of them at a time yet they all have to be registered. Don't seem right to me. bg

I didn't notice untill I read this but in NV last year the RV plates were $30. 00 but this year I paid $65. 00. What a rip off

My 2007 32' Weekend Warrior was 423. 00 for the year in lovely Colorado. So for my 2005 truck and 5th wheel it was over $800. 00 for the year. Then you add the wifes Jetta, My Harley and the son's Subaru We are talking close to $1500. 00 to drive on the worst highways in the lower 48.

I'd be careful with that . Most states will suspend or revoke the registration on something if not renewed in time... . then when you try to get a renewal, they will tack on a massive "reinstatement " fee on that plate.

In North Dakota, trailers come due every December. My 29' TT cost me $20 and my 20' open car hauler cost me $20. My Ram is $157 a year with a registered weight of 13,000 #. If I have to run across the scale with my car hauler and race car on board, I could be susceptible to a fine if I exceed the 13,000. I race for money and I am sponsored. So, technically not a "hobby" racer. Talked to a Trooper friend of mine and my interpretation of the statute is correct in that the 13,000 pounds I pay for is a combined weight of tow and towed vehicle. He also told me the chances of a guy pulling his race car on a highway in ND with your rig looking like you take care of it and everything being strapped down and hooked up appropriately, is slim. They don't routinely stop and weigh set-ups like mine. But, you'll see in ND a lot of times a 3/4 or 1 ton PU pulling a gooseneck loaded to the hilt with hay bails. That will get their attention.

T-bone has it right, lots of guys around here do that. Then turn in the plates in the fall if you want to save more.

I registered my gooseneck in maine. I renewed a couple of years ago, $200 for 10 years. ;)

Of course, then you're getting into the gray area of "where do you live". It is legal, a friend of mine has his tag-along trailer registered there. He got a ticket, and fought it in court. He won. Cost more than the fine would have been, but he was proving a point. (he has more money than me ;))

It's about like that in UT, they tax all vehicles on registration according to the county assessed value, $280. 00 for my 5ver. A bunch of crap if you ask me.

I don't know about other states , but here in Virginia you can buy a permanent tag for trailers. It is a one time cost, I think when I bought ones for my trailers they were $ 50 apiece, You might want to check if your state offers anything similar. They aren't tranferable though. New trailer = new tag.

My three trailers over 10K gross weighting cost me $0 forever since they are permanent plated. However just got the renewal for the pickup based on 26K and it is $ 764. 00 for 1 year. In Oregon if you haul nonRV trailers over 10K you perm plate the trailers and then pay for the vehicle based on the weight you want to be rated for.

$764. 00 for one year? Must be T plates. My F plates @ 34k are $184. 00 for a year but they do have a lot of restrictions of use. I also live in Oregon and if I am not mistaken the threshold for nonrv trailers license is 8k. Also permanent plated trailers can not be towed by standard registration plated vehicles.
