Cost to run truck per mile

Has anybody figured out the cost to run per mile?

I have several trips coming up. From Los Angeles to Tucson and then Los Angeles to Olympia Washington.

I'm trying to figure out if it pays to rent a car or if it pays to drive my truck.

Personally I prefer to drive my truck, BUT if it is more cost effective to drive a rental into the ground then I will do so, with a smile.

My truck is a 98 and I'm already at 154,000 miles.

Everyone would have a different number with fuel costs differing across the nation, insurance differences and those that pay higher for maintenance.



Now with all that said - The last 10,000 miles averaged . 16 per mile. This included Fuel, Insurance and Maintenance. It does not include the cost to buy the rig.



If you want to include the total cost for mine with purchase cost and total miles it would be 1. 19 per mile but what do you expect when it only had 31,000 when I sold it.

Too bad the rental companies don't have VW TDIs for rentals.

50+ mpg would sound pretty good on a long road trip.

A rough guesstimate for me this past summer would be...





$1000 every 300 feet!
