2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Costco Batteries

Just got back from Costco, wanted to buy a couple batteries for my truck, but I can't figure out if they have them or not. It says to use 2 27 group batteries, 750 cranking amps well the only ones they have says starting/deep cycle marine batteries. Does anyone here have costco batteries for there truck and what do they say on them. Everyone at costco was just scratching there heads? Need my truck to deliver some Christmas gifts to Vegas on Sunday. Oo.

Don't waste your time. Go to any parts store and buy two red top optima batteries. They fit just fine in me and my dad's 96 2500's. the costco ones are low cranking amps and are junk, plus they will leak and cost 50 bucks+ Optimas are 99 bucks each and last twice as long.

The red top Optimas are not exact replacements for our trucks, but they do work.



If you do not want to spend over $200 on batteries I would run to Walmart and pick up two of their batteries. $60 a piece and 3 years free replacement warranty.

All optima redtops are the same size. some are higher cranking amps.

FWIW - The Wally World batteries in father's truck have been there 2 1/2 years and no corrosion or leaks yet. On the other hand, the Wolverine batteries I replaced in my truck leaked acid all over the place.

Man I was gonna say the same thing eairler about ditching the wet cell's for Optimas

or some other sealed gell cell batteries. The guy I bought my truck from let the wet cells go and now I have a nice mess goin' on from battery acid. You don't need a spec battery to replace your old ones. My red tops are 1050 cranking amps and I have a pair of yellows now but I'm not sure what they are other than kick *****.

BTW Johnosn Controls mfgr costco private label brand and it ain't junk either.

When I bought my truck in 2001 I kept the Costco battery out of my Chevy gasser. I'm not sure of the common size but on the side it says "Group size 34/78DT. " It has 1000 Cranking amps and 875 Cold Cranking amps. The battery has been in continuous service since September, 2000. It's passenger side mate is an Interstate that was installed by the PO in July, 2000. I know I'm at the end of my luck on both of them but so far they have never given any probs. Hardly ever add water. I just keep them clean and spray WD40 on them a couple of times a year. If Costco doesn't have the same battery when I need them I'll probably go the Walmart route.

Costco only carrys the 750CCA. I belive that the 800CCA are a better choice Inerstate battery carrys them.

I ended up buying batteries from AutoZone this time, 3 year free replacement. I've bought $100 batteries before and I end up getting about 2 to 3 years out of them and end up forking over another $100 bucks for replacements. I figured this time I'll go the cheap route and see what happens.

I always buy batteries at Costco and have been very pleased with them, the 3 year free replacement warranty and the price. I also buy the Deep Cycle battery for my camper at Costco.

Everstart MAXX Batteries

Did some research before replacing my batteries about 18 months ago. Walmart's Everstart MAXX batteries are manufacturered by Johnson Controls, which a well respected brand. I've had absolutely no problems with mine. The Optimas are great batteries, but my personal opinion is they are a bit overpriced. Here is a link to some ineresting reading about batteries. It appears there are really only a few actual manufacturers, that OEM for just about everyone. The following link references Johnson Controls as OEM for Optima. (Interesting?)

Cheaper isnt always better and usually Cheaper costs you more in the long run!

When it comes to batteries they all look and feel the same. The one HUGE differance is the ones that leak and the ones that dont.

MAJOR damage is caused every day on cars from cheap batteries that tend to leak. from wiring harnesses to sheet metal, anything on a car that comes in contact with leaking battery acid will be permanetly damaged. Spending 10-20 bucks less on a battery that can do hundreds and possibly thousands of dollars in damages is not good economics!. What ever battery that is not a optima type, you choose insp it regulaly for any signs of corrosion at the terminals, corrosion IS NOT NORMAL!! It is common on low end batteries but not normal.
