those little VW diesels get 50 miles to the gal. you can do everything to them that you can to the dodge turbos, fuel etc . and still get 30-35mpg now wouldn't that be awsome.

That's why Rep. John dingell is pushing to clean up our fuel to allow diesels. It looks like he is successful. But it will not happen till 2005.

Rep dingell pushes diesel power

Currently the Pt cruiser, liberty/cherokee, grand cherokee and voyager are using diesels in europe. I'd like to see it spead to the neon (+neon replacement), stratus/sebring, and the next generation LX vehicals. Ford focus 5dr is looking into bringing 1. 8L TDCI to the US market. 115hp torque??? 0-60=9. 9sec. Artical at motor trend first test, Under 2002 ford focus TDCI. Nice artical.

If you haven't read car-truck.com lately. He has some interesting things to say about the future of small vehical diesels for the US market.

And to think, there are MANY in our society today who think "being European" is SOOoooo cool... All *I* can say, is go TO Europe if ya like what they "offer" don't bring the "European way" over HERE to add to our problems...

Switch to decaf Gary.

STRONG industry rumor has it that Ford will file bankruptcy right after the first of the year - looks like another guv'ment bailout ala Chrysler is on the way...

I remember the bltching Ford and GM did when Chrysler was helped - wonder what the Ford folks will be thinking if THEY next need the same assistance... :p :D

The day that F*rd goes under will be one of my proudest moments... .

Doesn't matter to me... the only new vehicles I would ever buy aren't even made in this country - which isn't necessarily a good thing.

Matt

AH, I can't really say that - some of the best, most memorable vehicles in my past were Fords - It'll be another sad day if they go thru the same troubles Chrysler did - it won't be a good day for Ford OR our country... When major companies like that fold, we ALL lose!:(

Maybe they are having financal problems do to the focus recalls and refitting the police car fuel tanks. If they want to save money. Just pull all racing funding. No more NASCAR, FUNNY CAR, ect... Ford can not go under. It owns too many companies. They would have to sell the other companies before ford as a base company can be sold or die off.

Too bad about the 4. 5 diesel v-6 being delayed. I think they should put that into the ranger size of vehical. Instead of such a heavy vehical class they are planning on installing it in.

Ya that too.

The US can not afford to lose Ford. They supply too many jobs. They are also a symbol of american pride. From Nascar, monster trucks, funnycars, formala 1 ect...

They will bounce back.

"What's wrong with this picture? "

Well, for starters, MOST of the seemingly impressive stats above STILL put Dodge SOLIDLY behind Ford and GM in direst head-to-head competing models - and it's only a fantasy to suggest DC is creating any serious concerns over in the Ford and GM sales offices...

The tired old argument that DC is selling their stuff "faster than they could built them" is FAR more a commentary on poor production ability than excellent sales - otherwise, why do GM and Ford have so many MORE of their trucks built, sold, and on the road than DC? That's not guesswork - that's ACTUAL production numbers as recently posted right here, on THIS board!

Maybe DC needs to ramp up their production a bit, and give their sales division something to work with? :p

The old "we sell them faster than we can build them" BS was the long-standing reason DC could never "bother" to build a true 4-door crewcab, didn't see the need, since after all, they were busy enough building and selling their other models, and couldn't be bothered...

Meanwhile Ford ALSO seems to be selling those 4-door crewcabs "as fast as they can biuld them" - frequently to former Dodge buyers...

10 ring Oo. Gary!!!!!
