He was Diabetic and died of complications.

That really sucks, it's the first I heard. I too will miss Waylon, he was one of the greatest for sure.



One of my favorites... the theme from the Dukes of Hazzard. Not to mention that he was the narrator of the show.

It REALLY makes me mad that he does not get the attention that he deserves. He was truly a legend.

I just read his bio on Yahoo, and I found something interesting. Did you know he was the bass player in Buddy Holly's band? He would have been on the plane that crashed, had he not given up his seat on that flight to "The Big Bopper" Richardson.

I had the pleasure of sitting to a table next to the Outlaw 2 years ago in Nashville for easter dinner. He was very cordial to a giddy bunch of onlookers. He will be missed.

Not only is that story true, but Waylon reunited with the original Cricket's later on in the 80's and they toured with him for several years, I got to watch him play at a concert in Shreveport La. in 1980 and it was a real treat as I was already a fan. You ask why I know so much, cause my Uncle Joe B. Mauldin was an original Cricket and still is and living just outside of Nashville and yep they still tour about 6 months out of the year playing all the old tunes.

This was all over the radio and TV out here, he lived up in Glendale AZ I believe. They played that "who's gonna fill their shoes" song and I thought I was gonna have to stop and buy a beer to cry in :{

Sure hated to hear the news. I'm not old enough to have been around in the big Luckenbach days, but at least I can still enjoy their music.

"Who's gonna fill their shoes?" that pretty much says it all. We've lost Conway and Waylon. Look at these so called "Country stars" they push today and ask yourselves, who is there? Answer is, no one. Boys, we're witnessing the end of an era. There will no longer be any "Country legends" because Nashville has traded that concept in for disposable stars. In the "Outlaw" days, guys could bypass Nashville's control by going around to individual dj's and get their music played. Now all the music is beamed in on satellite and Nashville controls the satellites. Yep, the days of enduring country legends that are around year after year are gone. They've been replaced by these guys who look like some member of Nsync who they stuck a cowboy had on and called him country. It truly is a sad day.

Dan, I agree with ya Dan, Nashville is puttin out a lotta crap they call country.



But, I've noticed a few local artists down here in Texas that have done exactly like you metioned. Guys like Pat Green, Robert Earl Keene, and a few others have started hitting some local radio stations and getting their stuff out there.

Hell, Pat Green has just about sold out the Astrodome for his night at the Rodeo. Most of his fan base is Texas. His music is also something I enjoy listening to. Good ol' fashioned Country music. Just picked up two of his CD's today and have already heard both of them about 5 times. The whole thing
