ive owned 3 ctd's and this is my first automatic. needless to say, i have some learnin to do. ive spent a few hours searching through auto trany threads but i have a few questions.

i use my truck as a DD and work truck. i dont tow heavy. i want to get into drag racing this year. reliability is #1 as this is a do everything truck. also. im on a tight budget. what i need to know is what is the minimum i can get away with safely when it comes to upgrading the trans? also, is a fully rebuilt trans nessesary? the truck is an 02 and came with a banks power pack. i pulled the box and plan to upgrade as soon as i figure out what i want. truck only has 32k on it. the way i see it i dont need a full trans rebuild. i want to be able to reliably race with a box, appx 100hp injectors, and an s300 62/12 of no particular brand.

would i be able to do this with an upgraded TC,input shaft, VB, and controller?

id rather not buy the rest of the billit shafts and rebuild the trans untill its got some more miles on it.

thanks,

ben

Have built a few trans for towing with boxes and had good service out of them but you are talking about drag racing which means power braking and boosted launches.

You are going to need a full built trans and billet shafts to reliably do that at the power level you are talking about.

this is very true.

you may want to look into a fully built trans if you plan on drag racing. because when you start to bomb the truck it doesnt stop.

my suggestion is to give some trans companies a call and see which one gives you the warm and fuzzy feeling about there trans. one company i know builds great stuff is HTS transmission.
