As you can see in my signature, I have a 93 gasser. It has the NV4500 transmission. What is the difference between this and the HD models for the diesels? Would this still have the 5th gear nut problem? Also, is there a drain plug in the bottom? I haven't lookd real good, but I didn't see one. Thanks

I believe there are minor diffrences but it would still be prone to the 5th gear problem. That said, the gassers don't seem to have the issue (Dodge or Chevy) so I suspect it has to do with the drivetrain harmonics and torque output of the Cummins.

Just pull the bottom center bolt from a PTO cover to drain it.

is the gearing in the transmissions the same? i once had someone tell me that they were different and i would really like to know if they are or not because i can get one for almost nothing

I think the gearing is the same. There seems to be a pretty good gap between third and fourth gear. I don't know that i'd use a gasser transmission behind the cummins, especially a modded one.

Dodge NV4500 All V-6 & V-8's have an 1 1/8 input shaft including the HEMI. V-10 & Cummin's have an 1 1/4 input shaft. The output shaft is suppose to be smaller on the V-6 V-8's also. The gearing is the same on both tran's. But they do make a CLOSE RATIO NV4500 with the 1 1/8 input shaft.
