How do you take off the main front panel to install?

Also how do you get to the orange/white wire on the dimmer switch? Is there a way that the light control cluster comes out?

Any tips on the install or pics and instructions to do it?

Thanks

There is one screw above the hook on the right side of the center console face plate. Then it just uses snap in legs. Remove the screw and carefully start popping out the console out. Pull out far enough to unplug electrical and its out. Added a pic of the removal to get to the dimmer/light switch wiring.

This is a link to my gallery at DTW that shows the gauge installs on mine using the Autometer Console 3 gauge pod.

As long as I have the front plate off and the wires exposed to the A/C controlls, couldn't I tie the light wires of the gauges to the light wire of the A/C controls?

I don't think that is a good idea. The guys that did mine made a consoladated wiring harness for the lights and used a tap into the dimmer circuit. It may work, but not much effort to do it the other way.

I see JVolpe and Jumbo Jet both have auto trannies, any thoughts of what to use for the third guage for thus of us with sticks? I am a newbie, so be easy. Love the install on those rigs by the way. Thanks in advance and sorry if I am highjacking here.

Yes you can... ... . I've had mine installed that way for over 16 trouble-free months without any problems at all. I also tied my 12V+ switched power for the pyrometer into the cigarette lighter. Didn't see the need to run wiring all the way over to the headlight switch... . pics are in my gallery.

I would put a Fuel Pressure Gauge in the 3rd spot.

One more question, do I want the 30psi or 60psi for the turbo boost gauge.

Thinking about installing the Quad chip.

You definitly want over a 30psi gauge. I have a 35 psi Autometer gauge and wish that I would have gone higher. I might just use the boost gauge on my Attitude and swap my boost gauge for a fuel pressure gauge.

Hey Greg,

Do you remeber what color wire the A/C lights were on?

Thanks

Nope... . it's easy enough to determine which one you need to use as long as you have a cheapy test-light though. Just keep trying till you hit the one that dims your test light whilst using the dimmer control on your headlight switch.

The people that installed mine used a replacement line that goes from the Transmission to the Transmission cooler. It is exactly like the OE line except it has a t-fitting for the sensor. Very easy and the best temp reading location. www.massdiesel.com sells the lines for around $80. That is my recommendation.

Ok,

Gauges are about to go in.

Can someone tell me the best place to install the transmission probe?

There is a test port on side of the trans on the passenger's side that the probe can be put in. There has been alot of discussion about it, poeple that have run both probes in the test port and in the line have not noticed any difference in tempature. There is a picture of the port in my reader rig gallery.

I found this:

Supposedly this port is the only one that gets oil in all forward gears according to a couple of other threads.

Is that true?

That has been said about the test ports, but I doubt it is true. I have seen temp increase 30 degees in less than a couple minutes, if there is no fluid I doubt the temp of case could rise that quickly, this is usually when I get in heavy traffic under 40MPH and the TC is unlocked, once back up to speed with the TC locked the temp goes back down though much slower than it goes up.

Just as an FYI, I'm planning to put an Oil pressure, fuel pressure, and maybe a boost guage in the same spot as Jumbo Jet. I have a call in to Isspro about an oil pressure guage somewhere between their 100psi and 400psi guage. I called them last week but haven't had a call back yet.

Just got the Isspro gauges in today.

Will do the install on Saturday.

Question though.....

Many people have said that the transmission sensor wires are too short. How do you fix the problem? Splice the wires?

I know you cant do this on a pyro gauge, but it is ok for this?

Thanks

I have the Autometer guages in that spot and ran the wires over the transmission to the rear port, plenty long enough. I ended up having to splice the wires because I accidentally damaged them in the firewall, it works like a charm now. Good luck!

I have the ISSPRO gauges and yes you can splice the Transmission Temp sensor wires, I had to do that on mine as it was short by about three feet.

Gauge works perfect Temp goes up and down and I used the port you had in the picture, I get as hot as 190 degrees backing up in just about three to five minutes, the highest temp I have seen while towing is 180 in traffic, and I get about 130 while traveling 55 to 70 with air flowing through the cooler.
