Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) couple questions on my dad's 12 valve...

His truck is a 1998 with the engine out of a 1995. It's an automatic 4x4 long bed normal cab con 4:10's. The only thing he's put on there is a BHAF and we turned the star wheel back towards the driver probably half to 3/4 of a turn. He really thought turning that wheel back made his truck more responsive, and he's almost gotten bit by the bug...



He mows lawns and does farm work. I think someone told me to get a 100 plate or grind his plate down to what a 100 plate looks like. I dont remember what else someone told me to do, but he just wants a powerful reliable truck.



Where can I get the template to grind that plate down?

get a clutch first, if you grind the plate to a 100 kiss the clutch goodbye. delivery valves are in the injector pump they determine how much fuel is sent to the injector. i would just slide the stock plate foward and afc housing foward and block the wastegate. turning the starwheel toward the driver takes away power you want to move it toward the front of the truck(clockwise) turn it as far foward as you can until it almost dissappears.

No clutch in an automatic truck. You have to be careful with a stock automatic. Easy to tear it up with Cummins torque if you increase power too much. A TST #6 plate will give you respectible power in a '95 engine with a 160 pump without tearing up the trans. You will need an EGT gauge if he does any towing, especially in the mountains.



The star wheel affects fueling during acceleration before boost gets high enough to move the AFC throttle stop out of the way. After that point the AFC has no affect and the torque plate regulates maximum fueling. A delivery valve is really a check valve. The small ones on the 160 pump restrict fuel flow so replacing them with larger ones will add power.

Okay, thinking about how I turned it that's actually how I did it. I was pushing the wheel down with a screwdriver. It was turning clockwise.
