I had the local trans shop do a "shift kit" & turn up the line pressure in my old '99 & it worked great. Well I had the same thing done to the '95 & it still doens't shift quite right.

Does the temp sender have anything to do with the shifts other than OD?

If I start up & get right on the highway it shifts to 2nd normal but just hangs in 2nd for "way" too long, like a quarter mile. Doesn't matter if you are light on the throttle or stand on it. Go about 1/4 mile & it works great. If I leave the house, it takes me about 1/4 mile to get to the highway. It would only go in 3rd if you were to speed (limit of 25 mph) By the time I pull out on to the highway it shifts fine. If it gets in 3rd & I stop it will shift fine the next time. I also had it flushed & replaced the fluid with MOPAR brand ATF+4 at the same time but it has been 2-3 weeks since this was done & it is just now starting this in the last few days. Also rain this week & the in-out of OD started. Could the TPS be any of this when cold or first starting out? Thanks for reading my long post, look forward to hearing any & all ideas.

I kinda want to swap in a 6 speed but Love the way the auto worked in my other truck. If I could get this one to shift like it did I would be happy.

Try to adjust the TV cable. Also see if it will shift if you lift and then press down again. The 47RH has a fly weight governor instead of an electronic governor like the other truck. More tempermental.

I suspect a leaking piston seal in the front clutch. ( third gear ). This pressure that is leaking, is the same pressure that releases 2nd gear. After it warms some, it swells and works better. This is why some shops won't just do a VB and converter, other issues show up.

I'd try some trans seal fix in a can. It may get you down the road a few months.

I'm going with Fox, been there... done that. front clutch lip seals will be hard as rock and brittle when you finally get inside to fix it, they should be soft. i think they changed the material the seals are made of to viton to keep the seals from hardening. you might try the trans seal like he said to hold off for a while, but eventually someone is going in there. Dave.

I donno about something in the "release" of 2nd gear... . if 2nd bound up with 3rd... you'd have a cracked case. 2nd is applied by a band, 3rd is the front clutch. The Front clutch is within the drum the band stops. If the band and the clutch apply at the same time you WILL have a bind up.

I would be more looking at the shift kit installation. It sounds like something is fishy there. Judging by my ATSG manual, either the shuttle valve or the 2-3 shift valve is hanging up.

Trans hang

Can I ask a very basic question?

When I got my 95, it would hang between 2nd and 3rd really bad, only when cold.

Checked the transmission fluid and it was low. Added fluid (about 1 1/2 quarts) and it has shifted fine since.

It's a cheap fix, and worth a shot.

shuttle valve & 2-3 shift valve... . are they all in the valve body??

Yes both of those valves are in the valve body. Something as small as a piece of lint can make those valves act funny.
