Mine and my Dad's trucks are both leaking through the kick panel vent and we are both just gonna cover the inlet in the cowl. How does the cowl come off? I saw that there are a bunch of screws in the engine bay and was just wondering if there are clips up under the windshield.

How many of you guys have had problem and how did you resolve it?

Are you referring to the vent grille in front of the windshield? The cowl itself is not removable - it's part of the cab.

There's only 1 or 2 screws on each side as I recall - and you need to remove the wiper arms. The cowl sorta gets stuck up at the windshield side so sometimes need to carefully work it free - one of the cowl screws on each side is sorta up under the rubber windshield molding.

If water's sloshing out the door, the drain is probably plugged. To clear it,

1. Put your gut on the passenger front fender facing aft

2. Reach past the automatic trans dipstick (if you have one) and under the fan motor housing

3. Feel a short rubber tube protruding from the firewall

4. Work the tube gently between your thumb and forefinger, crumbling the stuff in the tube

5. Do this up and down the tube till the water rushes out

There will also be a substantial amount of nasty black stuff - rotted vegetation, mainly.

I just did this to see how to phrase this note and found mine almost clogged again. I had last done this about three years ago. Put it on your list for annual maintenance.

See picture in the album "Vent Box" in my Reader's Rigs pictures.

I just had to redo the bushings on the windshield wipers this weekend, and the cowl panel slid right out from under the windshield. I didnt take out any screws from the windshield side. Doesnt mean they werent there at one time... ... There are a couple clips on the cowl panel you can grab and pull gently toward the front of the engine compartment, and upward a hair if needed.

Cant help you on the rest of it. Sorry.

Daniel
