Coyotes

We had a pack of 4 coyotes around our house for a few days. We live in the mountains in an unincorporated part of the county. I called a deputy and he said it's ok to shoot them here, because they are considered a predator. The Dept of Wildlife said the same thing. That does NOT apply to mountain lions I found out. I have not seen the coyotes since, so I did not have a chance to shoo them away. I couldn't have shot them anyway since I sold all my guns.

if you want to do the . 22 on the down low thing use these Aguila SSS they are deadly and quiet, i run them through my old pump . 22 to control the stray cat population, i too live on the fringe where people dump off loads of cats and they crap all over everything and tear up the flower beds/garden. the SSS aguila is a sledgehammer and should have more then enough beef to roll a yote with a well placed shot

If they're getting that close and a gun is out of the question (some locales consider anything that discharges a projectile a "firearm") you might try a slingshot. Yeah, it's a projectile, but it's really quiet. Get one that you shoot the big marble sized shot and I'm sure once you hit one or two, they'll think two or three times about coming back.

Look into a Gamo pellet rifle. I have one that will shoot a regular pellet at 1,000 fps. Use their premium pellets, you get 1,200 fps, or their piercing pellets for 1,250 fps. I guarantee a well placed shot will eliminate the problem or seriously make them think twice about being there. Oh, they are very quit. Coyotes are a very serious threat to our pets and our children, they will get braver, then it might be too late. Deal with them swiftly and aggressively, before it is too late! Personally, I would use my 22 mag or my 223 and be done with it.

I'm constantly battlin' rodents/reptiles/insects and searchin' for the best deterrent. Sounds like you are hamstrung by regulations and don't really relish killing animals. Build yourself a badass slingshot with some surgical tubing and a 'Y' handle cut from a bush or sapling. Get some marbles or bearings. If you employ enough tubing, to get a full arm-length stretch, you can reach way out and put silent hurt on any size creature.

They may well impliment their main tactic..... EUTHINAISA. They likely kill more pets than any other organization in the USA. Just as well use your poison of choice, thats what PETA does.

I'm going to invite PETA over for a cook-out. Main course, Veggies, burnt on the grill, then a special drink for a toast. My own SPECIAL concoction of course. !!!( I'm drinking beer. )

If they survive the grilling then it ain't strong enough!!!!!!

Those coyotes would make good target practice for a bow & arrow.



You wouldn't need a very powerful or expensive bow. A 40 pounder should be more than enough. Your choice of arrow would determine how much of a "deterrent" it is.

B&A is good except... if you don't get a killing hit and someone finds a coyote with an arrow in it, it will make the headlines. Just a thought...

Good point, but they are in season. And I think I could prove that the coyote had to be very close if I could hit it!

Most likely a non-lethal hit it would run to its den and not in the open. Its family would quickly take it down.

Just shoot your neighbor first, then deal with the yote.

Take a look at Cabelas or do a google search, you want to spray the urine of a predator to them like a mountain lion or some thing that would take a coyote down. They get a whiff and will keep on moving.

My mother in law just got done reconstructing her Bijion after a major mauling. Poor thing was tore up something fierce and she just could not bear to let her slip away. The good news was that the do WAS overweight providing a protective barrier for vitals (Who says being fat is bad). The Cyote population is BOOMING here in CT. Dogs and cats are dissapearing on a dily basis. Whats more is that the Cyote pups are showing ZERO fear tward human intervention. In our neighborhood the woods have been relatively wet this season providing a virtual feast of small vermin for them to feed on. When the opertunity comes domesticated pets are next on the feast list.



THe bad side is that Racoons have been found rabid all shredded which poses another issie that some cyotes may be rabid.

we had a coon a while back that was all sickly weaving around my side yard in the middle of the day that i wanted to scatter across the field but the neighbors saw it and got all cutesy, "awwwww isn't it cuuuuuute" and started bringing everyone out to look at it i guess i can't empty its skull with the city kids watching so i got in the car and left
