Dear Friends, New to the common rail game but starting to modify my 06 Mega cab - want to put new lift pump - on an aftermarket inline pump - what type of line pressure do I want? On my old 98 24v it was 17lbs (put FASS pump on) and I was wondering what ideal was with the cp3. I knew you guys would be faster than looking it up on the internet.

Same as your 24V will work fine, 17 lbs. Gives you enough room for growth in the power department. :)

I found one pump with 20lbs max and another with 45 lbs. Will the 45 give any advantage with same GPH (200 gallons). Or will it hurt the cp3?

You won't hurt the CP3 with that 45 lbs or 20. If anything its better for it as it will just route more fuel thru the pump for lube and cooling. The 20 would be quite adequate up to the point it won't supply enough fuel to make your target HP.

More pressure will cut down the cavitation and help with the fuel delivery to the rail but at the expense of returning more aereated fuel to the tank. It will depend on what system you use as the perceived benefits of 20 or 45.

Isn't the fuel in the CP3 regulated? Meaning as long as you have enough pressure (approx 14 psi) you should be OK. If you send 40 50 60 to the CP3, it has an internal regulator which controls the amount of fuel sent to the rail it won't make a difference unless you modify the passages in the CP3 (FCA, Regulator etc. ) to flow more fuel? I could be wrong.
