Ok... I've already read through the instructions from ATS, but I still have some questions... .

1) Where is the hole to insert the engine turnover/lock tool located?

2) Have yet to take off the belt on my Dodge. Where is the tensor located, and how easy or hard is this procedure?

3) Any helpful tips or advice anyone can give me would be appreciated. Should be doing the install this weekend sometime. Probably Sunday. Let me know.

Thanks,

CStraf-

The hole for the barring tool is on teh transmission housing on the passenger side. There is a small cover you need to remove with (IIRC) a 10mm socket. Me, I use the CP3 nut to bar it over.

The Tensioner is under the truck on the passenger side and uses a 1/2 drive ratchet or breaker bar.

The install is pretty simple. Should take about 2-3 hours.

you will need a baring tool to turn the engine over, it goes in the transmission side cover. the tensioner is on the bottom left side of your motor, pull it away from your power steering pump once loose and get out of the way. after this you will need a 3/8's drive rachet to get the plastic cover off of the timing cover. then you will need a gear puller to get the cp3 gear off, after you looses and retrieve the 15/ 16's nut and washer off of the cp3 shaft. 3 nuts on the back of the cp3, fuel lines, electronics, and drop the front of the ecm and your good to get it out of it's hole. use a wiggle motion and a small bar to get out. this should get you real close.

Ok sounds good. Reb B. is sending me a a gear puller. I just ordered the barring tool from Cummins-Snap-On... hope it's the right one. Sounds pretty straight forward. I guess Reb was also saying to make sure to have a magnet on hand... I suppose this is what you were referring too NGM when you said, "after you loose and retrieve the 15/16's nut and washer off of the Cp3 shaft"????

don't remove the belt all the way, it's a pain to get it all routed again. In fact, get a belt routing diagram if you don't already have one. Taking the inner fender liner out helps too. Only takes a couple of minutes. Careful torqing the plastic nut, it cracks very easily (so I've heard).

yes this is correct, good luck

So just take the belt off the power steering pump?

yeah, pull it off of the necessary pulley(s) to get at the cp3. I think you have to remove it from the vaccum pump too if you have the jake.

Jstieger helped me on my 1st install, and some good advice from him was to have a couple prybars ready to gently pry the cp3 loose. Also, lube up the o-ring going back in, but don't get any oil on the shaft as this will not allow for the proper interference type fit. Don't drop the washer in the timing gear housing!

Will vaseline work?

Should I remove the fan shroud and fan before starting the install????? Floor-it finally got the pump to me, so lets get-r-done.

it will make it easyer but you dont have to. i dont do this, i just bust my hands up a little and yell at the dog-----just kidding, i dont have a dog.

Just drain a bit of coolant and take the top radiator hose loose and you can get at the gear easy. You don't need a barring tool to turn the motor either. It can be easily be turned with a socket wrench on one the harmonic balancer bolts.

I have the barring tool. No issue there. I'm more worried about the tensioner. Looks really tight around there. But I guess there should be enough room to get a ratchet in there.

the barring tool is only used in this application as a hold, so the gear dont turn the engine over 5 times or untill the nut desides to back off. it is on there pretty good.
