Actually Ozy, there is a problem with the CP4, and there’s a internal pump rework on the way. They’re redesigning the cam lobe profile. And that’s not internet blabber. That’s straight from FCA.

Did they tell you why they are redesign it?

Rob, if you’re in the trade, and you want to grab some ASE’s I encourage that. They’re not inexpensive, but it’s a validating experience.

So is FCA getting a REALLY good deal from Bosch on these CP4s now?

I do not believe that FCA is specifying the fuel system on an engine that they purchase complete from a supplier. They may have design input on any given component that is purchase from a supplier, but the supplier is selling a complete engine. So, FCA is not buying the fuel system and installing this on a Cummins engine.

I know when I was working at Cat, we would have meeting with the sub-supplier of a purchased finish component such as a Valve, Pump or Motor. Cat engineers would provide input has how to improve the component in the completed purchase finish component, if that component was failing when in production use. I was part of a Cat engineering team working with Rexroth for 6 months to improve the life of their purchased finish pump that was used on our machines.

Thanks Wayne,
Back in the late 80's I got my ASE certification's and kept that updated for some years after that. Been a self employed shop owner since 79 and still at it, working on cars and trucks, manly gassers, really enjoy learning about these CTD Rams now that i have one! I really enjoy this forum as well.
So now the ASE stuff is online, thats a good thing.

FWIW. I spent career involved with private labeling hvac equipment both domestic and importing for various MFG. In most cases a number of failures per 1000 would be considered an epidemic and thus qualify for coverage. It is negotiable based on many factors and the critical most expensive components only. Cummins I'm sure has a number on when they have to help Ram.
