Cracked alternator bracket

I just noticed that my alternator bracket is cracked. Since I am out of warranty I was wondering if I will have to buy the part outright, or if the dealer pays for it. I know that plenty of people have had this issue, so I'm just wondering how to go about fixing it. Thanks!

Good question, there is definitely a TSB on that because mine cracked on my 03 as well, but it was still well within warranty.

Mine is cracked to and a tsb is not a recall so we will have to pay for them. Im going to pull mine off and tig weld it.

I had mine replaced as the TSB item. They found it while replacing my steering box under warranty. I'd call the dealer. They should still replace it for free.

my '03 was cracked at 56000+ miles and I had to buy and replace it myself. Its a easy fix. Just take the belt off the alternator [not off the truck]. Take all the bolts out of the brkt, plus one in the lift plate, and slide the brkt straight up. Its a quick fix. SKing has a good idea with a tig weld.

Weird stuff, I would think that since the bracket is a Cummins piece on the engine that it would be under the 10yr/100K warranty.

May be wrong here, but IIRC, the bracket is a D/C piece.

I don't think so, they can be found on cummins quick serve.

The old number was 3957394 stamped steel

The new number is 3967318 and is cast

Its not part of the fuel or internal motor so it was only a 3/36 part. ask dealer for D. C. assistance or call and ask D. C. 1-800-992-1997. It was one of the FIRST TSBs to come out with the 3rd generation trucks.

mine was broke too, i pulled it off and welded it back up with . 030 hard wire, has not cracked again... .

Just welded mine up over the weekend. Good thing too. Once I got it off, I saw that there was only about an inch of uncracked bracket holding togather.
