Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Cracked Block

Doing this for Boyfriend again.



He has a 53 cracked block, how long will he be able to drive the truck for in this condition? He treats truck gently. He is not hard on it and never has been. He is adding quite a bit of coolant.

Untill the crack worsens, (gets wider?) or he gets sick of adding coolant. Use the search feature here, some of these blocks have been repaired using the 'lock and stitch' welding method. I'm sure some have been patched using a product called "JB Weld". An epoxy so strong, it's claim to fame has actually been used to repair cracked engine blocks.

JB Weld wont work. . Tried it. . I had to replace the block. . There is no repair that will work.

Probably depends on how big a crack and how much use he needs to get out of it, but I've read of people putting dike sealant in as a band-aid. Don't know how effective it is, but I plan on getting some for my emergency kit.

Speaking from experience, DIKE does not work, it will slow the leak a little but it also clogs up everything else, heater core, heater hoses, radiator, etc etc. Don't put it in your truck. Lock and Stitch does not work, welding does not work. JB weld definately does not work. The block is so thin it will just crack in another spot, so don't waste your time and money, Buy a new block and do it yourself or waste some hard earned time and go after dodge/cummins. A new block at cummins should cost $1300. How many miles is on the truck?

Anyway welcome to the bend over and take it up the @$$ club. Now you wont even be able to sell your truck, they wont even take it on a trade in. no resale value whatsoever. Good luck.

Yes I get girlfriend to do alot for me, for this year have been home for 5 days so far. Yes Mediccommin you are correct with cumin and we will take your money. The gutless wonder won't get any more money wasted on it then it absolutely has to. I am hoping that the 6. 4 will prove it is good ? Or to go to the Cat motor for the Top Kick. But cumins will not get anymore money from me for they let me down every time.
