I have called several dealerships and the Chrysler number on the video that was posted a while back. It is amazing that none of the dealers are aware that there is a problem with the dash, they also want $900 to replace. Can anyone tell me if they have had any success with this item?

Thanks

I think Geno's is where I bought a hard plastic overlay, it comes with a small tube of silicone, save that for something else, it's not enough. Go get a caulking gun size of silicone adhesive and use most if not all of it. It will keep the rest of your dash from falling apart. After I did that I bought a dashmat and forgot about it. FWIW

What I did was contact Chrysler Customer Care. They paid for the labor to replace my dash top this year. All I paid was the 425 for the top. Try this number 1-800-992-1997, ask for Megan @ I. D ME601, thats her extension. If she's not there or can't be reached ask the operator if you can speak to someone about the issue you are having. They will want your V. I. N number and other details as well as having a dealer visualy inspect the dash then they will contact you with what they are willing to do. Oh, the dealer that fixed mine knew of the problem and have replaced several, good Luck.

I can get used tops locally for $30 (or so). You have to pull them though. I grabbed an extra top for my '94 yesterday for cheaper at another yard. My original is fine but I figured that since '94-'97 blue is kind of rare, I better get one when I had the chance.

Can someone recommend a good source of replacement dash tops that has them at a reasonable price. I just called my dealer and they want over $500 for a new top.

The dash along with the steering column need to be dropped. The section of vents need to be attached to the dash also. Its not to bad if you take your time... Jeff

Well hot dog! Geno's to the rescue! That ABS replacement looks just like what the doctor ordered. I knew Geno's had the hard covers, but I didn't know they had the replacement. Thanks Mishkaya. It's cool to get help from a fellow Iowegian - I grew up in Lee county (southeast).

Jeff, I just finished the heater core replacement. The dash top practically fell apart on me when I screwed it back into the firewall. It already had a few cracks, but it's all busted up now. Not as bad as your dash was though.

Thank you all.

This is just incompetent Engineering! Fortunately, I park mine inside and have had a dash cover since day 1. The unions have taken out the term ‘quality' in American manufacturing.

My truck has spent at most 3 months out of the sun in its 12+ years. Knock on hollow skull, my dash looks good as new. But I'll discover its true condition when I remove it to replace the heater core and evap once global warming returns in earnest again (some time after the remnants of the 15" of global warming melt. ) And my paint still looks pretty decent. Did I just plain get lucky?

Mine was replaced about 1 year ago for $200 (parts & labor) by the Dodge dealer I have dealt with for 10 years. There was some initial resistance but if the Service Manager goes to bat for you they should be able to come up with a good deal.
Good luck,
Tom

yes I guess only the ones from St. Louis cracked and none of the non-union Mexican ones cracked. The union sourced and spec'ed the dash to be used also.

My 01 is fine no cracks and has been out recently.

Not following your reasoning? I have no doubt that the obscenely high wages paid to the heavily unionized auto workers have been the downfall of all American automakers. Perhaps we should take this to the political forum.

Mine was built in Mexico (Quad Cab) and had the cracked dash.
