Just got done wiping down the interior in my truck and noticed a thin crack about 6" long on the topside of the passenger dash. Won't show up in pics yet, but I am wondering how many other folks are seeing this. #@$%!

I've heard of this from a few folks before. Your location may have a lot to do with it (too much sunny, warm, beautiful weather). If you lived in a dreary, gray, dull place like I do, your dash would last longer.

This seems to be an issue with Dodge Ram pickups. We have a fleet of these vehicles at work and it is a common problem. I attribute the problem to poor design and materials. There is an aftermarket company making glue on covers to repair the problem without replacing the whole dash. They don't look bad and if you didn't know that it was there you might not even notice it. In my opinion Dodge should replace the dash with a revised design. These dashes are complete junk. I'm ashamed of Dodge for installing a dash like this in a vehicle that they charge this kind of money for. Here is a link to site that sells the replacement cover. Dodge Chrysler and Plymouth Dash Replacement Covers

It is very rare on the 3rd gens. I see Dodges everyday and have yet to see one from natural causes. I do have a friend that cracked his down in Baja after an extended flight :-laf

This is one of the reasons I allways run a dash cover... ... they cut down on the glare also.

Maybe yours cracked from your girlfriends kankles resting up there.

DUDE thats brutal!!!... ..... funny but brutal...

Next time you walk past a 2nd gen in a parking lot, take note, my 99 is cracked to all hell. If it happens to the 08, i will be very dissapointed. Im in Colorado where the suns' uv's are brutal. Cali may be the same

The 2nd gens are a known issue. I have replaced many of them

I just went and looked at mine. I have 2 hair line cracks in my dash. Are these available at the dealer Bob? I was going to tear into the dash anyways to replace all the air vent doors etc that I purchased a while back.

Steve

Yup they are available, not cheap though. A friend of mine cracked his doing some out of control jumps in Baja... ... ... ... . he's still living with it so far

Bob

Steve I haven't seen you on the So cal site for a while. We are going to glamis Jan 30 if you are interested

Bob

My '03 has about 6 cracks in it and I was very dissapointed to find the dealer won't do anything about it.

Trim pieces have always been a bad warranty subject. During the 3/36 period it is even tough,if there is a chance of proving normal wear and tear. At one point the dealers had to do digital imaging and let corporate determine coverage.

Bob

O NO.

I thought when i traded my 2nd gen for a 3rd my cracked dash fears were over. I always wondered if the dash cracks were brought on from freqent heater and ac core changes. My 2nd gen dash was streched almost into the back seat when i did the a/c and heater core :(

Mine is completely cracked and broken around the area I mounted the 3-gauge dash pod. A few of the pieces have fallen out. This was after I installed the dash mat, and I've never armor-alled the interior...

Of course, stuff seems to always happen to me that is a 1 in a million chance with everyone else! :-laf

HaHaHa you're not alone.

We need something to wipe the dashs down with to keep them soft! Not "Armor all" Something that Really Keeps the dash from Drying and getting Brittle!

The windshield magnifies the suns rays I believe which makes it really bad,but IMHO the real fix Would be to use a Different Dash material to start with!Hard Plastic will loose to the sun Everytime!and i'm sure a lot of people feel as i do when i say i want something Thats less maintenance.....

Yea, it seems to be slow over their so I haven't logged in in awhile. I am planning a Glamis trip on the 30th also. But I will be in my Motorhome not my truck. If I make it out there, where do you all camp?

Steve

I got this number from a dealer when I called about replacing my dash top, 1-800-992-1997. It's a Chrysler customer support line, I talked with a lady that told me as soon I could get the dealer to look at it, they would call her then she calls me to let me know what they are willing to do. Who knows what if anything I will get out of it.
