Drove to the top of Mount Evans on Saturday. 14, 290 feet. Good drive, no problems. Sunday there was a puddle of fuel under the truck and definite fuel odor when driving. The fuel lines were all OK, but the fuel filter had a crack on the back side. Very easy to see the crack - about 4 inches long and the paint was chipped away from the edges. It was not at the crimp at the top of the filter, but was vertical right down the side. Anyone else see this before?

You sound like a prime candidate for a Prime-Loc fuel filter relocation kit. Problem solved... not mention much easier fuel filter changes. #ad

Last summer, my truck split a Cummins 3923108 fuel filter on the way to a state park. I stopped when we began smelling diesel fuel, to discover a trail of fuel behind me and a strong spray of fuel coming from a 2" crack down the length of the filter. Fortunately, I always have a spare filter and after a quick change I was on the road again.

Don't know why the filter cracked. Judging by the trail of fuel on the road, my lift pump had plenty of output!

John,
Are you saying that the Prime-Loc will prevent fuel filters from splitting?

Tim, after looking at the year of your Ram, you are already using the screw-on type fuel filter. My mistake. #ad
I guess I had figured that you had a canister style unit, present on (for sure #ad
) '98. 5 through present ISBs. The first thing that popped into my mind after reading your post was that cheap, OE die cast canister housing cracked.
