Got this from BD forum. Has anyone really seen this happen?

"I have a 2001 RAM 2500 diesel with the stock aluminum rims. I installed a new set of tires at approx. 100,000km's (60,000 miles) and found that 2 of the rims are cracked crosswise to the rim, across the bead sealing surface. I know of at least 4 other people having the same problem, Dodge dealer says there is no problem, blames it on the tires I am running - LT285 75 R16's. Also, are these rims directional (is air flow a factor), all the rims are the same, but hole design would suggest they may be directional. "

The wheels are not directional. I've used the LT285/75R16 Bridgestone Dueler A/T's since new around 300 miles or so. No problems as of yet to 33,474 miles... ..... The wheels could have {note--could have} been stressed by incorrect tire mounting procedures.

Given the rotation pattern dictated by D/C, "directional" wheels would require removing and remounting tires at each tire rotation.

Yes it happens-I know of at least 2 2500 CTD's in severe service (oilfield operator trucks) here in Alberta that have cracked at least 1 wheel each. Just waiting for it to happen on mine... ... . :( At that time said factory wheels will be replaced with aftermarket forged ones as the factory ones are $400 CDN apiece!
