I recently purchased 01 3500 HO 6spd ,looking for a solution to the crank case vent bottle mess on the front of my motor and front axle. Relocation ? Replacement with aftermarket solution ? I like to keep my stuff clean. Would appreciate any information you might have. Chris

I to didn't like the vent blowing a misty oil film all over the transmission and transfer case. So I bought a length of 3/4" pvc tubing and a coupling and 90 degree fitting. Ran the vent down the drivers side frame and them 90 down just before the bed. Works out great, been 3-4 years and everything is kept clean, and no more odors. Kind of funny cause everyone ask what it is.

I tried a variety of methods, some of which I saw on the TDR, one I came up with myself. I finally just extended the hose down to the cross bar and tied it up there. No mess on front of engine and no spots on driveway.

Sometimes the easiest way is the best way.

Fleetguard Enviroguard

Chris,

Check out the attached thread for the Enviroguard, I do not have one installed yet but plan on getting one as soon as I get back home. I think it is one of the best options for our trucks and it keeps the oil were it belongs in the engine not on the ground. You might give it your consideration. True it is more expensive (aprox $189) then extending the breather hose but it is also more environmentally responsible. :)

I just extended mine to about six inches off the ground, paint the pavement rather than the truck bottom. Just slipped a piece of hose (think it was 3/4'' ID over the stock hose, no clamp. I figured to make it able to come off easily if caught on something, still hasn't come off after eight years.

If you route the hose towards the rear make sure there are no low spots especially if you do short trips and live where it freezes. Moisture can collect and freeze eventually restricting the tube.

I know I will catch H*$#@! on yhis one but wouldn't a childs Sock over

catch bottle stop oil from blowing on Frame. :D

I am fine with my re-route, and I did make sure the hose took a long steady down hill coarse, so to avoid low spots. That is a good point. Also I spent less then 10 dollars and I'm happy, I never get any leakage out of it, and no spots on the driveway. Just a little steam with running thats about it. Maybe the enviro guard is the right way to go?? I would consider it if I was leaking oil everywhere, but not at this time.

I have had the Fleetguard Enviroguard for over 3 years now, some of the best money I ever spent. It looks like its installed by the factory, & I don't have to replace a sock.

You can have the TSB done that relocates it and dont have to worry about pumping all your oil out on a steep down hill. I had it done and then extended the hose.

I have seen a couple of trucks that had the TSB done. They both are higher mileage trucks & the underside of the trucks have the oily mess underneath. .

Enviroguard is no muss, no fuss. .
