I just finished changing the oil on my rig yesterday, and as always I could smell oil coming from the crank case vent tube for the first 50~100 miles or so.

I have not taken the time to remove the plastic valve cover off to inspect the filter. Does anyone know if the crank case filter is a serviceable item? or just leave it alone?

I dare to assume that it is not serviceable since they hid it under that plastic valve cover. thanks in advance for coments, replies etc.

not serviceable... it isn't a filter really. it is an oil separator. condenses the oil vapours and drains it back to sump, and just blow by gasses are suppose to get out... but yeah it does stink some. . different oils smell more or less too... rotella has a strong smell. the xd-3 i am using has a strong smell. . delo is reported to not smell so strong as is mobil delvac. .
