I don’t like it when threads start with a problem and then they never end. You never know when, how, or if the problem ever got fixed. So here is the end of my problem.
I went to the Cummins dealer and asked for a Crank Position Sensor for a 2000 Dodge. The part number was 4002066 and the cost was $37. I installed it in the truck and since the starter had to come down, I found this a good time to install my new Larry B Super Contacts inside the starter. With 107,000 one side was almost gone.
I got everything back together started the truck. The tach that used to move around 50 rpm as idle is now rock steady. The fuel pressure was bouncing from 11-15 back and forth at idle is now steady at 14psi. After a few starts the check engine light went away.
Thanks for all the help here guys and remember part numbers, cost, and if/how the problem ever got fixed is a big help to others…
