Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Crank seal question

As I say, it is encouraging to me that many of you experienced Cummins folks have never seen one, because that means it's a non-essential part. And there wasn't one on my truck before either.

At least, not an essential part with a Cummins seal. Maybe necessary with the seal you have???

A couple Cummins seal kits I have used had the dust cover included. It seems haphazard. I just tossed them.

Repair complete? I got everything back together and ran the engine for a few minutes. No apparent leaks, but I'll keep an eye on it for a while.

Weird never heard of it unless its a industrial application ??

It is for off road and dusty environment applications. http://www.qualitydieselparts.com/products/3804899.htm There is also kit # 3904353 that does not have the dust shield. Posted to correct my previous assumption that the dust shields are in the kits haphazard. BTW, the dust shield has been brought up in previous threads like this one. (post 5)
