Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) crank sensor location

Tach fails intermittenly- where is crank sensor located on 2001 dodge. It is NOT behind the starter

01 is behind the VP-44, it's a Cam Position Sensor.



It is a PITA to get to without removing the VP.

It is behind the starter, you also have to move the freaking dipstick tube to get it out. Had mine out last night. 2nd one. :-(

It is a PITA to get to without removing the VP.

It is much easier to remove the vacuum pump/PS assembly to get to it. Just get a new gasket (goes between the block and vacuum pump) if you do.





2001 - 2002 only have the cam position sensor between the VP-44 and the block. It goes into the front gearcase, and if I remember correctly, it takes a 5mm allen head to remove. If you had a 6" or so long allen wrench, you may be able to remove it easier.
