I'm trying to troubleshoot my A/C system and the crank sensor is next on the list.

Does anyone know how to test (or bypass) this sensor? I can't find any specs on ohm readings or what the signal should be.

I'm starting to pull my hair out with the with the wiring on this thing :{

The gap is correct and the wiring looks good, I need to find out if the ecm is getting a signal.

when I had my 1st gen it stopped charging when the crank sensor went bad. I just replaced it and the gen circuit started charging again. The crank sensor is like a seeing eye to let the pcm know that the engine is running. If you are charging ok then I expect the crank sensor is ok. Good Luck

Well that would be the case but the truck is running a external voltage regulator so the ecm is bybassed in that respect.

You can't bypass and I think it takes a scope to read what it is putting out. At least that what I was told.

You chech continuity and conections I believe. Look at the plug under the uppure radiator hose connection. The internal pieces will spread too far and it won't make contact.

You will not get a continuity reading threw the CPS. It is a normaly open switch. It closes when the gap in the balencer goes past it. If it is mountd on the engine it takes a scope to read it.

It is just and on/off switch. It puts out a square wave signal.

Thanks guys, That's what I needed to know. Cummins gave me the part #3924432 @ $64. 43 sound about right?

cerberusiam, you were right about that connector. The little tabs were bent out and barely touching, didn't fix it though. :mad:

DOH! you're right, that would have helped. Anyway, got the new sensor in today and the A/C is working again. Thank's everyone.
