I have excessive ammounts of oil coming out of my crankcase breather tube. I read a service bulletin on this which caled for a kit. The truck in question is a 99' and there is no bottle on the bottom of the tube. Does anyone know if there should be? I have seen 2000's with a bottle on the tube and wondered if it took a flying leap. I would assume that the "kit" is a new breather, hose and canister. Anyone know?

The TSB you are referring to,09-002-02. Is to correct an issue when off roading at severe angles (downhill). In that case because the breather tube is all the way in the front it is possible to have engine oil loss out the breather.

The brether is moved back to the side of the block like the 12v are. You can add a catch bottle to yours using the same parts as the latter years use.

Looks like a nice kit but NO WAY that is worth $199! I some scrap pvc conduit pipe of the correct diameter & about 18 inches long and pushed it inside the EOM breather hose and extended lower and put another piece of rubber hose on the bottom of the PVC pipe and zip tied the pvc to the cross bar on the front suspension.

99? is the breather in the front or the rear. Mine is a 98. 5 and the breather is at the rear with no bottle- better than up front IMO. A friends 01 has it in the front with the catch bottle.

It's in the front. Leaves oil all over steering and axle, very annoying.

I'd get a bottle for it and drain every other oil change (I think thats often enough). Also, I'd check out the radiator and see if its clean on the backside.

I put the Fleetguard Enviroguard on, and haven't had a drop of oil since. This is the same vent setup as the 3rd Gen trucks. It's a little pricey, but worth it IMHO.

Since I put my Enviroguard on, I haven't had one drop of oil come out of the breather. IMO, it's worth it when it comes to not having oil get on the backside of the radiator, the axle, oil pan, dss, power steering cap/dipstick and so on. Having things cleaner on the underside of the truck will also make it easier to find an oil leak if one were to happen, since nothing has a coat of oil with road grime mixed in. Just my $. 02.

This subject has been kicked around for years but, I had a different take on the issue. I couldn't keep my front windshield clean during wet weather. I tried new blades, chemical cleaning of the glass and I still had extreme "slime" on the glass that would streak in wet weather. I found the "puke-bottle" to be the culprit. The small amount of blow-by that is always flowing dresses the entire engine compartment and a portion squeaks past the rubber cowl seal and coats your windshield like salad dressing. It's truly a big mess and also leads to fowling the air flow through the cooling components in the front of our trucks. Fan-wash really kicks this junk all over the place.

Any method you elect to use to vent the oil laden gases else where is a vast improvement for many reasons. After throwing the "puke-bottle" away I just extended the tube straight down. Just like the old days with a road-draft tube expelling the blow-by. Yes, it dresses the under-chassis but, I'd rather have to clean the front differential cover then have poop all over the ISB compartment and the front windshield!

The wife has her fanny in the way here but if you look just to the right of her knee you can see my thing hanging straight down.

By the way... guys say they can "smell" something after a fresh oil change... do this and you won't smell your ISB pharting in your face anymore.

Cheers

William
