Well I finally made the vent hose longer on my 99. What a mess it has done to the radiator. I used a 6 foot piece of 5/8 heater hose but now my oil pressure gauge reads somewhat higher. Is it to restrictive or what?

I have my 01 vented to just behind the cab and didn't notice any difference on mine. Does freak me out some times when I smell it or see it smoking

at a stop light! LOL!!!

Mine ends at about the mid-transmission area using the 5/8" hose. I really don't know how restiction here would cause an increase in oil pressure (did you do an oil change at the same time?).

Word of caution if you are running the hose with any substanitial length: Be sure that the tube has no chance of clogging (due to oil pooling or severe cold weather) as I have heard stories of the tappet cover gasket blowing if there is no where to vent. I tried to maintain a downward slope on mine.

Mine's still in the stock location... . radiator's fine, but it looks like my oil pan gasket has been leaking for decades. Whichever engineer designed that catcher should be shot in the back of the head! It's probably the same one who designed the cupholders in the 1997s.

My truck came with a 3/4" tube hanging down on the drivers side at the rear of the oil pan. I bought enough 3/4" tubing to snake it through the frame and have it poke out just about at the end of the cab, then I used a 90° tubing connector and added about a 15" piece so it shoots straight down. This really keeps the underside of the truck clean, and you don't even see the breather tube except where it exits the frame rail. I would not down size the vent, and instead run the same or larger size tubing.

vent tube extension

I estended my vent tube on my 99 just straight down tie wrap to the stabilizer bar and it now makes a small mess on the front of the differential cover but not enough to drip off and no more oil mess on the radiator.

Yes I had done a oil change about 200 miles ago. I found some 3/4 hose instead of 5/8 I think bigger is better. It did freak me out when my oil pressure went up. I thought the hose was plugged. Why does a oil change make the gauge show more oil pressure? Thanks for all the replys.
