The first problem is I have oil dripping in the driveway  . I cleaned it up and it seems to be coming from the crankcase breather. I pulled the hose off the lower canister and it seems to have some oil in it as I wiggle it. Should I remove it and empty it? I remember reading about a fix but it was 300 or more? Then I checked my oil which I changed at 37400 it is right at the top safe mark. It was probably a tad over filled when I did the oil 1/4" is it that critical?

My brakes are gone again at 43,000 rotors not much wear just a few spider cracks or crazing. I used OEM pads the second time but have PFC's going in this time.

Thanks for the help.

The breather bottle should be emptied after every oil change. There is a TSB to remove it (that's what I did), but it may have been covered under the 36K mile warranty. Lots of guys have just extended the hose so it drips under the truck and not on it. You might still get small drips when it is parked and not running from residual oil in the tube. Another way to "fix" it is to relocate the bottle along the frame rail where it is easier to get at. The important thing is to route the hose so that oil doesn't sit and build up pressure over time. The pressure can blow out seals.

When you say you removed it do you mean totally did away with it? And if you did how did you do it? Mine does'nt really blow much oil on the bottom of the engine but is really caked up with crud. Oh yeah also I've never emptied it and I have 68,000 miles on it.

Thanks, Jim Shaw

I think the best thing is to remove it and get you some more hose and extend it back. Thats what I did on the ones I had before this one. Front of your engine stays dry then. Never did have any drips on drive.

I tried the relocation and the sock trick. Then I bought the Fleetguard kit that replaces the stock breather with the Enviroguard and this leaks no oil and leaves no crud on the engine. It's pricey, $200 but I like it.

This is an issue that has been covered many times... A lot of us just took the bottle off, extended the hose to below the radiator, and just tied it off there. Mine's been like that for over three years and I don't have any drips on the driveway that I can see(exposed aggregate). The bottom of the engine, and frame are pretty clean. If you leave the bottle where it is, the radiator fan has a tendency to blow oil mist all over the front of the engine.

Be careful about extending the hose too far. If you run it back along the truck, and it gets plugged up (mud, snow, water, ice, etc), you can blow some seals in the engine. Have fun... :)

Take a Look at this thread, i made a vent out of the valve cover and it goes down the side. about 70% less drips and junk.

Heres the repost

The solution is to make a vent on the valve cover like the N-14 Cummins has on the big truck I drive.

First I ground down the rear of the two raised bars to make a flat surface for the grommet.

Here are the parts I got at Auto Zone. The item on the left is a GM oil filler cap and it has a out tube but is hidden here... has a baffle and sponge that will keep any oil in on splashes. Part Number is #8075 The grommet on the Right is one of the "HELP!" items part # 42306 "oil filler tube grommet"... . and not shown but is in lower pics is 5' of crancase hose

Then I started drilling. first I drilled a small hole, making it bigger and bigger till I had 1 3/8" opening for the grommet.

Pic of it installed on the valve cover. I had to remove it to put the cover on the truck.

After I put the cover on, it was easy to put the grommet on then the breather on. it is right at the padding... just right..... attach a hose, route it down to the side of the engine at the engine mounts. and tied the end to the plate for the axle disconnect wih an angled cut on the hose so wind will draw the fumes out through venturi effect.

Then I had to block off the original hose so I found a plug and used a piece of the original hose to block off any oil to want to get out.

Ran the engine and no leaks and it vents just fine. now I can go out and go offroad with no worries
