Are you referring to the engine speed sensor? If so, I believe you can get those at most any parts stores, I don't know for sure if you can get them from Cummins or not.

The factory service manual refers to it as a crankshaft position sensor, however you are right in that it can only measure engine speed. I've checked all the local auto parts stores (autozone, napa, parts plus, advanced, auto value) most of them did not even have a part listed and a couple tried to sell me the wrong part. The dodge dealer can get me one for $140, I just thought that was alot for such a simple sensor.

thanks for the replies,

Michael

See if you can get a Cummins number for it. They may tell you that it's a Mopar number, since the Dodge pickup seems to be the redheaded stepchild at most Cummins shops, but it is available at Cummins.

Go to Cummins. I've found that all of the engine parts that I've looked for are available from them and strange as it may seem, at a greatly reduced price compared to NAPA or Dodge.

In Car Quest catalogue about a year ago they showed 4 or 5 that we could use. Had to look it up since my 91 1/2 did not come with sensor for tach.
