Best Electric Tongue Jack???

towing modifications

Hi All, I have a 2005, 32' rear livingroom model Alpenlite "Augusta", 5w trailer. I have a problem with the two large chairs in the rear of the trailer. They walk while the trailer is being towed causing damage to the chairs and the table between the chairs. Anyone who owns one of these will appreciate the effort required to adjust and move these monsters. I would appreciate some input on this problem. The chairs must be moved before traveling so that the slide can be opened or closed.

Thanks, Texas Ted

Ted,

We put our chairs back to back in our Hitchhiker fiver and they seem to stay put. I have been told that some folks do this but put a pillow between the two chairs and then use a tie down strap to cinch the two chairs together.

Our slide out keeps the chairs from moving out into the living area, they did rub on my day/night shade and rubbed a hole in it , now we lift the shades a bit before taking off.

Dave,

I also put the chairs back to back and put a strap around the two backs. They will still move about and have a tendency to move back to the rear wall of the trailer where they sit and rub. The only way I have been able to stop them is to put furniture pads around them while we're on the road. The pads must then be stored, also a problem. I haven't tried the pillow but since both chairs move together I don't think that would help the motion problem. I wonder if anyone has ideas as to hardware that may work to fix the chairs to the floor when on the road??

Thanks, Ted

I also put the chairs back to back, but I also screwed two eye hooks into the carpet floor near the outside wall, can hardly tell they are there. I then use a rachet strap to hold them down tight. I had some damage until I did this (hole in screen, broken window valance and bent mimi blinds. Hope this helps.

just a thought but if these are sitting on carpet you could put the hook side of velcro on the bottoms and they would then bite into the carpet and stay.

this would make them hard to slide around when you do need to move them however.

Kaniefski, Thanks for the tip. I'll give that one a try. Any problems with the eyebolt holding fast in the presswood floor?

Pltnmgr,

I find the chairs always moving especially on concrete highways. Some of these are in pretty bad shape here in California. I use 101 alot. I ordered the 7000 lb. axles with the trailer, perhaps that is the problem. All suspensions are not created equal !! Everything else seems to ride well.

Thanks, Ted

I put mine between the two slides, sofa slide and pillows on the entertainment side to keep the chair arms off the wood. . with my slides in the chairs are in a bind / pinch and holds them tight and the slides are closed tight. . before that I had some day/night blind dammage also

I have a Snowbird

The eye bolts hold good, but I think I have a plywood floor. The 5ver is a Sunnybrook 31BWFS. I have straped them down many many times and no problem.

My chairs ride face to face and a ratchet type strap is used to hold each to the floor with 2 rings for each chair screwed into the floor. The rings are no problem to deal with being that 2 are near the back wall and the other 2 sit under the chairs when used. You can also put them back to back and strap them together, I did it in my previous 5er and they never crawled.
